Hanratty's is very much a family style restaurant, with friendly service and a number of excellent dishes. The steaks are always of the highest quality. I also fancy the tuna steaks when cooked to proper temperature.
On Thursdays, from 6:30 until 9, an excellent jazz band plays in the front of the restaurant, near the bar.
The bar has a number of specials, and drinks tend to be reasonably priced. I don't think that you can find better prices for wines by the bottle (last I checked, a bottle of Mondavi Cabernet ran $45 per bottle).

Ben Weiner, a photorealistic painter, has a new show opening on Friday, September 16th, at 6 p.m. I wanted to make this post in advance to make people aware of the reception.
I have seen a number of the paintings set to appear in the upcoming show, and I must say that I am excited. Weiner takes up close photographs, of seemingly mundane objects and transforms them into large, 3' X 5' fantastical landscapes. I urge all who can attend to do so.

When you walk through the door, you will most likely be greeted by Alex, a charming maitre 'd/ owner. Although the restaurant is a bit too dark for many, the award winning margaritas can brighten anyone's day. (They don't use sour mix, but freshly squeeze lemons and limes on a daily basis).
The chairs are a little uncomfortable, so I recommend requesting a booth. The portions are gigantic (24oz sirloin or ribeye steaks, 20 oz fillet mignon), so you can easily get by sharing a number of the entrees.
Recommended dishes include: mole poblano, any of the steaks, barbacoa de costilla (ribs), and the taco tray.
Apps: Excellent guacamole, ceviche, and quesadillas.
