Berkeley bowl is awesome! when you first hear of it, you make think it's a bowling alley, and it used to be, but it has since been converted to a grocery store with an emphasis on produce. their selection is AMAZING and their prices are great too. you will find a huge selection of whatever is in season, and probably see more varieties of a certain type of produce that you've ever seen before (think a whole aisle of heirloom tomatoes when they're in season). it's like a huge farmer's market available all the time.

isobune is neat because you can eat at the sushi bar and they have boats that swim by where you just pick the sushi that you like off the boat. it's a good place to take people who have never been to California or tried sushi. the food itself is alright, but isn't anything special.

i liked nan yang because it was a little different from everything else out there. it was interesting to try Burmese food, and wasn't so different that it would turn people off. the food is a mix of various Asian cuisines you've probably already tried, like Chinese,, and Indian. (like rice and noodle dishes with things like curry and more exotic ingredients like mangoes). they also had about five different types of rice to try! i tried a noodle dish and a shrimp dish. both were very good, and the shrimp were very large and tasty.

cheeseboard is awesome! they serve only one type of pizza each day, and it always is vegetarian. the pizza is on great sourdough bread, and the ingredients are always fresh. I've gone there many times, and have always loved it. every time i take someone to try it, they love it too, even if they aren't big vegetarian fans.
cheeseboard also has a lot of great cheeses and fresh breads available. the cheese staff seems very knowledgeable and they let you try samples of the cheese before you buy.

i originally thought Saigon seafood harbor restaurant would be Thai food, but it's actually Chinese food (hong Kong style), and is a reference to a famous street/market place in hong Kong. anyway, when i first went the decor kinda caught me off guard--it's kinda kitschy , and for me not in a really good way. but the food more than makes up for it. the prices are good and i haven't had anything that i haven't liked there. I've gone once for dim sum (very good), and once for dinner. both times were good. if you get live food it can get expensive, but it's totally worth it!
