rasputin music store is one of those stores that you just have to go to when you visit the Berkeley campus. the selection is huge, and you can find stuff there that you won't find in a normal music store. great for the music buff and for anyone who just wants to peruse everything that is out there.

crepevine is a great place to go for a decently priced meal at a great restaurant in a good area for shopping/walking around. they have both savory and sweet crepes, and what i like about their savory crepes is that they come with salad and potatoes, it's a lot of food for the money. but try to save room for a sweet crepe, which is also very yummy.

the pacific east mall is a big Asian mall, with a large grocery store that focuses on Asian food (ranch 99), several good restaurants of various Asian cuisine (Vietnamese, Chinese (Cantonese style and Taiwanese style), Thai, etch), gift shops, and other service shops like real estate and eyeglass shops. it's pretty neat because it's different from what you would think of as your typical mall.

i went to the chabot space and science center for a business meeting. they have great services and employees to coordinate things like parties for kids and meetings for adults. it's off the beaten path away from the highway, and because of that it a good place to view star at night. in fact, i think sometimes of special nights where there may be things like shooting stars or eclipses, they may be open late for viewing. call ahead to check!

grasshopper is a small plates style restaurant that serves Asian fusion food. I've gone there a couple of times and each time I've been very happy with the food. my only complaint is that the plates tend to be pretty small (even for small plates), and since the food is pretty light, it can get pretty pricey to have a full meal here.

avant card is a great little card shop in Berkeley with a different selection than the normal stuff you find at places like hallmark or Carlton cards. they also carry other things besides greeting cards like stationary, photo books, scrap booking accessories, and office-type decorations. because the shop is pretty small, i wouldn't go out of my way to check it out, but if I'm in the neighborhood, it's a good place to go to get something a little different from the average hallmark card.

I've gone to east ocean seafood restaurant several times for dim sum. the food is pretty good, but considering the crowds i don't think it is all that great. but what keeps me coming back is the view. it is right on the water's edge, so is a great place to take people visiting California--they get a chance to experience great scenery and try dim sum for the first time.

crepes a go go has really good crepes, both savory and sweet. my favorite is a turkey crepe that tastes just like a thanksgiving dinner. their dessert crepes are also good. i would have rated this place higher, but there isn't a lot of places to sit and the ambiance is lacking. but if you want a nice, cheap meal, this is the place.

blue Nile is very popular with the college students, so i thought I'd give it a try. i was not all that impressed. the food is very stewy and i found it bland. trying to be more culturally correct, you eat with your hands at this restaurant. so you basically use the spongy bread they give you to pick up the stew. it gets really messy, and it was kinda neat for the first couple minutes but then i found it gross. (now, i usually eat with my hands at Indian places with naan, so I'm not against using my hands)
