Dr. Marks is an affable fellow who likes classic rock; this makes him a bit 'cooler' than other dentists. His office is small but run efficiently although they do slip up now and then (I had to wait three hours once).
Still, he's a decent guy and if you don't have insurance, then he'll try to work something out.
I know noone really likes to go to the dentist, but Dr. Marks makes it a pleasant experience.

Ula's Day Spa is a small spa located in Tribeca (feels like the middle of nowhere) near Nobu, Chanterelle and several other wonderful restaurants. It's tucked away on a side street and once you enter the spa, you're greeted warmly. There are spa products to purchase if you'd like and you walk through the nail area to get to the spa. The actual spa rooms are on the main level but the locker room, suana and tea & fruit area are all located downstairs.
I really recommend showing up early to take advantage of the lovely snacks and to simply relax. When you're ready, head back upstairs for a lovely, low-key, no sales pressure massage. Have had one of the best massages of my life there and was saddened to hear that my favorite massuese no longer works there.
Still, it's a very personalized experience; I like it better than the large spa institutions.

The Strand is a NY institution that everyone should try to visit at least once. I try to buy all of my books from them and not just the $1 paperbacks that they sell on the sidewalk in bins.
This store is crowded and can get hot (even with the new air conditioning) and you have to check your bags (always a nuisance) but you will get to buy cheap books.
This is the place to go to buy new bestsellers (they have reviewed copies for half off) and you should buy your classics here which are always discounted unlike the chain stores (I bought a paperback copy of Catcher in the Rye for $4.95 down from the original price of $5.99. Hey, a dollar saved is still a dollar!

This cleaners to the stars (there are a few celebrities who live in this building also known as the Archive) provides reliable service at reasonable prices. I've used them on several occasions and they've been able to treat and remove stains very well. They're reasonably priced and you'll pay no more here to have a shirt laundered than you would elsewhere. I would recommend this cleaners if you live in the west village/soho area.

what an appropos name. The only reputation this place should have is for cutting corners on service! Rude, unappreciative workers fill up this disgusting place. They try to get you in and out of there as quick as they can hoping to get in more customers. They wrecked my hair! I had to go somewhere else to get my hair fixed!

Salon Josefina's Unisex Dominican Hairstyling is a pretty cool place to go to get your hair done, even if you're not dominican. Very cool people work there and they're nice and friendly. It's not expensive at all and pretty well located. Avoid the midafternoons as they can get crowded with kids coming in after school.

While I will agree that Spice has a little quaint, soothing ambiance, the service there is less than desirable. At a recent visit, I had the rudest server EVER! Don’t get mad at me because you don’t like your job. A chat with the manager revealed that the “issue will be looked into.” Whatever!

According to the local paper, the Shopper, there is no better pizzeria in the Fair Lawn Area. How could anyone argue with that? I’m from New York City and I miss New York pizza so much. Ness Pizza is the only place that comes close to a real New York City pizza place. The slices have just the right thickness and perfect balance of cheese and sauces, unlike major pizza chains who use too much eggs and flour!

Stuck in between all those shops on River Road is a surprisingly, pleasant, tasty yet healthy deli named Giovanni's Deli. With all sorts of wraps and sandwiches, Giovanni’s Deli offers a wide selection of meats that your butcher shop would stock. I recently had Giovanni’s cater a party at my home; I had never had so many people compliment me on the food!

On the edge of the Fair Lawn/Hawthorne border lies an amalgam of entertainment and fine dining called Rivara’s Taste of Broadway! I do not know of any other restaurant in the area that offers tickets for HOT Broadway shows like Les Miserables and Spamalot with dinner packages. You MUST try the Homemade Maryland Crab Cakes, my personal favorite! Rivara’s also has an absolutely beautiful banquet hall for any parties or gatherings you may have.
