Bravco is a great place to go for hair products. They have a ton of brands for a couple of dollars less than the regular retail price. They have high end brands like Prive, Purology, and Bumble and Bumble and mid level brands like Rusk. It's cheaper to go here than to buy the same shampoo in the salon. The only bad part is that you can only pay with cash or check. No credit cards.

It's on the expensive side too, even for downtown Chicago. I would not go back. I prefer to go someplace that does not feel so cold and snooty.

Sugar Magnolia is a good designer women's clothing store. They have Diane Von Furstenberg, Susana Monaco, Velvet, and lots of jeans like Seven and Citizens of Humanity. Their sales on the second floor are usually really good. The bad thing though is that you only get 10 days to exchange and no refunds at all. So you have to be sure that it's something that you really want. The service is ok. It seems that they have regulars whom they pay the most attention to, but they are still nice to everyone. Good place to go for designer clothing.

Maxine's is a good salon, but nothing special. The three story walk-up building that it is in is cute and it is nicely decorated. The stylists are good but not great. It's often very crowded and doesn't have a relaxed feel. Since their prices went up I have not gone back because I don't think it's worth the price increase. It seems like the kind of place out of towners go to when they want to get their hair done in the city.

Salon Mor is marginal. The stylists are good, but the remainder of the experience is lacking. I once went in to get partial highlights, and it took 2.5 hours. They ran out of foil so someone had to run out and buy some. They only had one shampooer so four of us had sit there with wet hair for a half hour. They kindly offered to dry my hair for me, but neglected to mention that it cost me $30. For the price the service is lacking.

The Chicago Botanic Garden is a good place to go when you want to get away from the city and spend the day outside in nature. I spent nearly six hours here and walked the whole grounds. The back area near the woods, the prairie, and marsh island are a little bit of a walk but great exercise. I really liked the waterfall area, the Japanese Garden, and the Fruit Garden. Although it's next to I-94, the scenery is beautiful. Many people have their wedding reception here because it's such a pretty outdoor area. It's a great place to go as a couple or take the kids. The cafe in the gatehouse had good food and nice outdoor dining with live music. The peach sundae is good too. The grounds were well kept with plenty of benches and restroom areas.

The space is small but well decorated. This is purely a hair salon. And for downtown Chicago the prices are reasonable. The atmosphere is relaxed.

Charlie Trotter's has a reputation as being one of the nicest restaurants in the country for a reason. They have two fixed-price eight-course menus, one for meat lovers and one for veggie lovers. If you don't like an item on the menu they will make something else for you in its place. I would definitely recommend getting the wine pairing. If you finish your glass before you finish the matching course, they will refill your glass. It's a way better deal than buying a couple of bottles (it's a three hour event). The waiters are very attentive and are not stuffy. They even serve you Figi water. They food was great. When you call to make your reservation, they ask if you are celebrating anything. If you are, they will put "Happy Birthday" or "Happy Anniversary" on your menus which are yours to take home. I had a wonderful time at Charlie Trotters. Definitely a place for that special night out.

The atmosphere is relaxed and decor is very nice. The menu changes slightly seasonally. The bar is nice too and they have carryout. In the summer they have outdoor dining.
