Rincon has decent food, and it's not all that expensive - but oddly it tastes like Mexican food with an Asian flair. They have peas, carrots, corn & lima beans in their Spanish Rice! The beans are a bit runny, and my enchilada seemed to be missing the enchilada sauce. It's ok, but I won't go back.

I went to the teahouse for the first time the other day. Although I had passed by it and had been told that it was wonderful, I had never gone. I must say - it's beautiful inside - it's worth going just to see it! That aside, they also have the BEST chai I've ever had, hands down. It's not terribly expensive, and comes with one free refill. If you like chai, give it a try - it's wonderful!

Choosing a new dentist can be terrifying! I have been to the same dentist for the majority of my life, and had to go to a new one this week. I chose Dr. Mehlhoff from the list of "network" providers, and got lucky. The staff was really friendly, and very conscious of my comfort. I appreciated that Dr. Mehlhoff was gentle with me during my exam and that the assistant was quick with the X-Rays. Although I'll miss my old dentist (in CA), I'm glad I found someone gentle and honest with me.

I'm very particular about my hair, who cuts it, how it's cut, that sort of thing. I love Juanita at Creative Hair, and trust her completely with my hair. She's very friendly and gently - she takes a while, but always does a good job. She's cut my hair and put it up on several occasions, and I've never been disappointed. This salon is more expensive than Supercuts or another one of those chain stores, but it's worth the money.

This is a family owned shop located in downtown Davis. They're really broadening their offerings, and now on top of hairdressing, and waxing they also offer facials, body wraps and air brush tanning. They are also one of the only shops that will thread your eyebrows rather than wax them (a good option for people with sensitive skin). Everyone there is very nice and they put you at ease immediately. They accept walk-ins, appointments, and with advance notice will accommodate large parties (they have done several wedding parties that I know of).

Alphabet Moon Toys & Treasures is the only place in town to go for Toys. Since Discoveries closed this store has only gotten better (although they can be a bit pricy). They have a wide range of toys, and are willing to help you find that special something. Kids are always welcome to come in and play, and they even have a train table set up for the little ones. Although the store can be a bit busy and isn't always spick and span, the environment is wonderful. This is truly a toy store that loves kids.
**disclaimer: I know the owner, and have helped out in this store during busy seasons**

If you like Crepes, I highly recommend Crepeville. They're right across from the Davis Farmer's Market, so they're pretty busy during Market hours, but it's worth it. They have a desert crepe menu that's to die for (I like the apples and brown sugar one), and if you don't want sweet you can make build your own (all of them start with onions and cheese). They also have some pastries and serve specialty coffee. Cute little place with good food!

It used to be that Tux-N-Tailor was the best place to go for wedding dresses... everyone I knew (including my sister) went there. Since then the owner (who was the heart & soul of the shop) has been busy with her other business, and Tux-n-Tailor has suffered. I was sorely dissapointed with them when it came to my own wedding. They talked my mom out of ordering a dress early - promising her she would be able to find something off-the rack closer to the wedding (she was planning on losing some weight) - and she ended up having to buy a dress last minute that didn't really work well with the fall theme at all. For my own dress, luckily the owner was around the day we went in because she found me the perfect dress. The downside was that it was discontinued (I wish that she would have tried to order it anyway - just to see) - so I bought the "sample" they had in the store. It was a size 12 (I'm a 6) - so it had to be altered. That's where the problem was - I used the shop seamstress - big mistake! My dress was at least 1 size too big at my wedding - so my bra is showing in lots of the pictures, and I had to keep hoisting it up as it kept falling down. I don't want to dissuade any brides from purchsing their dresses here - they generally custom order them for you, and don't overcharge like some small shops do - but FIND ANOTHER SEAMSTRESS!! (Or at the very least insist that she do a good job - I wish I had).

I love Mexican food - and will pretty much try any Mexican Restaurant at least once. Although I've found lots of good ones, none compare to Murillo's. I live in Colorado now, and every time I go back to Northern California, I insist on going to Murillo's. This is genuine authentic Mexican, relatively inexpensive and has a great atmosphere. Their mild salsa is a family favorite - we always ask for lots of extra bowls so we don't all have to share. I am partial to the chicken avocado tostada (which has chicken, beans, fresh avocado, lettuce & cheese - toped with the mild sauce). I don't think anyone in my family has ever been disappointed with Murillo's - which is saying something since we're regulars. It's easy to find - right off of I-80 near the factory outlets. Give it a try - you won't be disappointed!

Ding How has the best Chinese food in town! They're lunch specials are a great deal, and they're pretty inexpensive. They're really nice - and are great for catering a large event where you need lots of food and don't necessarily need servers. They also have a large back room which can be rented out for private parties. Ding How is in the Albertson's Shopping Center next to Baskin Robbins. Although I don't eat fish, I do have it on very good authority that they have the best Honey Walnut Prawns in town!
