Personally, I'm a thin-crust person: Lots of toppings, little bread. Atlantic Street has lots of toppings, but caters to those who think a thick, high-quality crust is essential to the pizza experience. My fiancee's favorite pizzeria, but I'd prefer Pagliacci's.

Whenever my fiancee and I are going to buy something computer related and don't want to wait for Internet shipping, this is where we go. They always have what we want, and 9 times out of 10 it's there at a better-than-average price as well. The store is organized from most ordinary stuff to most techie stuff, with refridgerators and household equipment at the far left, then music, then computer games, then tons of computers, monitors, peripherals, RAM, hard drives, etc. Geeks will feel right at home amidst the computers, with a plethora of really cool stuff - but the staff is friendly and helpful, so you will also get the help you need if you don't know much about computers and need help with a purchase.

This is *the* place on Broadway to go for desert. Chocolate, cakes, pastries, and more. Esspresso drinks. Wine, if you are so inclined. Beautiful desserts, decorated with care and absolutely to die for. This is a great way to wrap up an evening - and if you take your special lady there, you will definately make a good impression on her. Especially if she likes chocolate (and what woman doesn't?).

My first visit here was unfortunately during an extremely busy Friday night. The pub was packed, and that's no mean feat since the dining area is a fairly large room. This was probably partly due to the group I was there with - a church community outing of about 20 people. However, the food was excellent (but a bit pricey), and the drinks were also good, even to my unsophisticated palate (I normally don't like beer). Because of how packed the place was, the staff were over-worked, and service was scant. The atmosphere was open and warm. I would come back here again during the week, or stop by if I was in the area and it didn't look too busy.

This hole-in-the-wall cafe is rarely busy, probably mostly because of its unfortunate location at the north end of the U. District Ave - within two blocks of a Starbucks *and* a Tully's, and there are about 5 other coffe shops south of the Ave, closer to the main University campus, that probably take most of the business. However, it is without a doubt better than either.
Up until recently, I would have given the Perkengruven a 5-star; however, the baristas have changed recently, and although the coffee is still good and artistically presented, they no longer do coffee art with the foam (something I really liked - seems to be a sign of someone who loves coffee & knows how to work with foam). However, they have local artists' work for sale on the walls, and the regularly changing art adds a nice touch of atmosphere. Still my favorite coffee shop on the Ave., but not by as much of a margin as it was 6 months ago.

The bad stuff first: It took 45 minutes for us to be seated, and we were seated at the counter - spreading out our party of 4 and making conversation difficult. The whole meal was also pricey - most couples I know couldn't afford to do this on a regular basis. We certainly couldn't - but I'm glad we were able to go this time as a treat from my fiance's parents. And what a treat!
The tapas at Harvest Vine are *amazing*. Amazing enough that I still rate this place a 5, even for value. The flavors are superb, and I couldn't seem to eat slow enough to savor the taste long enough. The food is good enough to more than make up for the wait. The octupus was tender (!), the chirizo sausage was excellent, and the presentation of the food was beautiful.
Unless you order enough tapas and snack on the free (and wonderful!) bread they bring, you may find the food to be unfilling, due to the (intentionally) small servings. If you aren't familiar with tapas, they are small servings of a variety of foods, which you order several of for your meal. If you try this restaurant, expect more exotic food, and don't eat too fast. This is one meal you'll want to linger over.

Dried mangoes, calimari steaks, salmon patties, strawberry soy milk, snack bars, potstickers, edamame, and lots of chocolate - all items we commonly pick up here on a college student budget. My fiance and I stop by Trader Joe's most of the time when we are in the area. This is where we get our quick-cook food - often managing to find healthy alternatives to Campbell's soup and ramen at affordable (though not ramen-cheap ;-) prices. Not quite as much variety as Whole Foods, but much cheaper and equal quality - and it sure beats Safeway!

This is some of the best Teriyaki I have ever had - and the price is right. Most entrees are $5.95 before tax, and the food arrives quickly and hot. Your food is brought to you, but you bus your own table - no obligation to tip (they assume their customers are students, who never tip anyways). If you get food to go, you won't have a long wait - usually about 5 minutes, maybe 10 during the busy period. The full menu includes about 30 entrees, including a selection of Korean dishes.
I usually can't eat even half of the food I get there - more like a third, and that's not mostly rice, like some places.

Yet another U-District Indian restaurant - but with a few more options than most of the others. Cedars actually serves a selection of Mediterranean food as well as Indian, though I've only tried the Indian. It also has a small store of Indian food. There is some pleasent outdoor seating for good weather, and the atmosphere inside is bright, between the presence of lots of white and the large windows.
The service is very good, but Cedars is often very noisy and crowded, due to its popularity. Because of this, you may want to go elsewhere on its busier nights. Fortunately, Jewel of India, the Tandoor, and the Bombay Grill are all within walking distance (within five blocks), so if you arrive and find it packed, the other options are nearly as good. Rumor has it that the menu at another near-by restaurant Taste of India is identical except that there is no Mediteranean food at Taste of India; I haven't confirmed this, but have heard the rumor from two sources who claimed first-hand knowledge.

Little Thai is without a doubt my favorite Thai restaurant - all because of their excellent seafood dishes. Unlike most local Thai places, which limit their seafood selection to "prawns", they also have mussels, scallops, and wonderful baked fish dishes. They also have decent service, the atmosphere isn't unpleasent, and prices are about $20 - 25 for a meal for two. But it's the food which sells this place.
If you don't like seafood, try the Masala Curry. It's the only thing my fiance ever gets there. Personally, I recommend the baked fish - you will have about eight different choices. There is an excellent selection of beef, chicken, and vegetarian food as well. For a beverage, their Thai tea is excellent - I ask them to make mine with coconut milk instead of half-and-half.
