EMOMs is the Eastside Mothers of Multiples, a group of east-of-Seattle mothers (and fathers) of twins and more (or expecting twins and more). They are an amazing resource, whether you want to socialize, locate baby supplies for twins, find hand-me-downs to cut your budget, get twin-parent-specific recommendations and advice, or get books and information on handling your double (or triple, or quadruple) blessing! I would recommend getting in touch with them the *second* you learn that you are expecting twins - or immediately, if you already have twins - if you are in the east-of-Seattle area. Check out their website at www.emoms.org.

So, you've done sprinkles, dipped cones, sauces and all that - what makes this place different? You get to design your own treats - and they mix the treats you pick into the ice cream (hence the name)! This adds greatly to the variety you can get, as well as just spicing up that hot summer day's cone with something new.
What other reviewers don't seem to have mentioned is that this place is a local must-visit spot on the Ave for anyone living in the area - according to a friend who works there, sometimes new student tour guides even bring groups of new UW students there while showing them around! I think everyone who has been in the U-District for more than a month knows this place.

The short version: Dr. Hansen knows his stuff, works quickly, won't make you wait, is polite and professional, and has a reputation at least in the area of pregnancy-related physiotherapy (and almost certainly does great in every other area).
Long version: I'm currently pregnant w/ twins, and had a related side effect of rib pain. The Evergreen midwives recommended Dr. Hansen, and am I glad I took that recommendation! As soon as I told him where I was uncomfortable, he had a guess for the diagnosis, confirmed it in three minutes, and fixed it in another 5 minutes. The problem? A rib became dislocated! Since then, I've had to see Dr. Hansen several times for related problems. He's always made an effort to squeeze me into his busy schedule ASAP, and is always polite, professional, and very quick - no long waits at his clinic!
I'm not the only one who recommends him, either - he is the most commonly suggested physiotherapist in the EMOMS (Eastside Mothers of Multiples) forums. He seems to have an especially strong reputation working with pregnant women, including mothers expecting twins or more. I would assume he is very skilled with other areas as well, this is just where I've encountered his name.

I generally can't stand Mexican - usually huge portions of rice and beans and very little innovation or difference between restaurants. Galerias is the one exception.
My husband ordered a stuffed Pablano chiles dish, which was filled with pears, nuts, raisins, meat, and tons of other goodies. He raved for days about the sheer quantity of flavors and how well they blended together unexpectedly. I had "Flores de Dona Elba", a steak marinated in a hibiscus sauce (a wonderfully sweet, tangy sauce with a gorgeous red color) with a slice of sauteed fresh cactus underneath. The cactus had a strong flavor that was took some getting used to on its own, but which took the tangy edge off of the hibiscus sauce when eaten with the rest of the food. While rice and beans were present, they were not the majority of the food. Oh, and the orange flan was *amazing*!
My advice is to try something different here. You can get your enchiladas, mole, and burritos at any Mexican restaurant - but not many of the other dishes here.

Personally, I'm a thin-crust person: Lots of toppings, little bread. Atlantic Street has lots of toppings, but caters to those who think a thick, high-quality crust is essential to the pizza experience. My fiancee's favorite pizzeria, but I'd prefer Pagliacci's.

A recent trip to Costa's turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Not quite as authentic-seeming as the Continental (just two stores down), but a welcoming decor made to feel like it is outdoors seating at a real Greek cafe - with plants, and a European roof coming down from the cooking area. The food had good variety, included some Italian options, and was tasty. We got an appetizer and entree for the two of us, and had enough for another person leftover. The only downer was the service. In the waiter's defense, it was late at night on Nov. 2nd and Bush had just been declared for Florida, so he had a reason to be grumpy. However, the waiter never asked us how our meal was, never refilled our water, and basically provided only the minimum of service. Service has to be pretty bad before I notice it is lacking, too.If you want service, see my review on the Continental.

The meat pies are pretty cheap and filling, but you will have room for one of their *amazing* desserts. There is a dining area where you can take your family in the front, and a 21+ only bar area in the back. The bartender is friendly, and will help you find a good drink if you don't know what you want. And pool in the bar area is free. They also had a live band (in the front dining area) while we were there. Check it out, especially if you are a local.

I have to re-write this review. Originally, I gave Irwin's a 3, but have since started getting better coffee drinks there. I also have tried some of their pastries, which are quite tasty. Their homemade pizza is a bit pricey, but was *very* delicious - the flavor from the mushrooms was amazing! and the crust was delicious. Normally, I don't eat pizza crusts, but this was great. The artwork that they display and sell for local artists is also usually very tasteful and adds interesting atmosphere.
The location is at Bagley's and 40th in Wallingford - in the middle of a suburban neighborhood, so it's convenient for locals (and the Judy's Book team, at least until we move to real offices ;-)

Want to grab some lunch without breaking the bank? Than Brothers is one of several places on the University District Ave (University Way) specializing in Pho, a Vietnamese noodle soup. The soup is good, but it's really about the cream puffs. We each received a complimentary puff with our pho. Another Than Brothers restuarant on Broadway is near a house where my fiancee and his friends gather every Friday for a gaming night - and one of his friend often goes to Than Brothers just to get a dozen cream puffs for the group.
As for the soup, there are a number of choices of pho, and you will be given jalepeno peppers, basil, lime, and lots of sauces to put in your soup if you want more flavor. The medium bowl was too much for me to eat, and they serve a large and X-tra large as well. A meal will probably be under $10.

The UW Newman center includes some of the kindest, most energetic people I have ever met. They are welcoming and eager to involve everyone in the church activities. You can join a church sports team, play foozball, go caroling at hostpitals and resthomes, attend Bible studies, come to tasty barbeques, listen to great lectures on Theology, and all within one supportive community. One of the greatest blessing for the UW students.
