A small, old-school Italian restaurant in historic Federal Hill, the Old Canteen is a place for delicious food and pleasant ambiance at low prices. The Prix-Fix menu, for just a dollar or two more than the regular entrees, includes bread and butter, soup, salad or antipasto, your entee with a side dish, and dessert and coffee. The menu has a variety of chicken, veal, steak, seafood and pasta offerings. This is not a place for a quick meal, but one where dinner is to be savored with friends over the course of an evening. Expect to spend at least two hours here, but not because of poor service. The wait staff is intent on letting you enjoy your meal one course at a time.

I’m a big fan of the Attleboro Y. It’s conveniently located in downtown Attleboro and has convenient parking and excellent operating hours. Parking is available in town-operated lots and is free early in the morning and later at night. During the dinner hour, the lots can fill up. The staff is friendly and the facilities are always clean. The Y has a nice variety of weight machines and a good selection of cardio equipment. The equipment is well-maintained. I’m very happy with the Y and would recommend it to anyone looking for a convenient, clean gym.

The walkway into the bar looks just like on the TV show, but once inside you'll find a series of rooms, each with a bar and restaurant seating. While most of the food is fairly standard pub fair at slightly high prices, the highlight is the award-winning New England Clam Chowder, which is among the best around.

A fun-filled pub in Mansfield, MA, Jimmy's Pub is a fun gathering place for friends. A wide variety of pub fare includes the signature “Monte Cristo†which is a ham and turkey club with melted cheese, wrapped in fried dough and covered with powdered sugar. While the sandwich sounds unusual, it has never disappointed, and provides a unique meal served with fries and cole slaw. For an appetizer, try the Pub-Pub platter.

As a child, I used to go the Chateau in Waltham with my grandmother. I loved the scala bread and toasted ravioli. Now that I’m older and live in Attleboro, Waltham is a bit of a drive for me. Luckily, there’s a Chateau on Route 1 in Norwood. They have an extensive menu full of delicious Italian dishes. The restaurant is large with ample seating, and tends to get crowded on weekend evenings. My favorite meal is still the toasted ravioli, but my husband has informed me that the lasagna and chicken parmesan are delicious as well. While I have not yet taken advantage of this feature, the Chateau has a family-style menu available for take-out. Freshly-baked break, uncooked pasta and their signature sauce are also available for purchase.
