UH bookstore is located at the Campus Center at the University of Hawaii. It is a student’s one stop shop for all school needs. Books for classes are easy to find and are labeled accordingly. They also sell UH athletic apparel, computers, electronic equipment, and other school supplies. They’ll also buy back some of you’re used text books from previous semesters. Although, I personally think it’s a total rip off buying back books at half the price and reselling it at twice the price. They also won’t buy back certain books for classes that are “out of date” which sometimes only means one semester or one year old.

In my opinion they are probably some of the best people to learn to surf form because they are fire fighters. So if something emergency or something should happen to you they’ll know what to do. I took one weekend lesson form them a year ago the whole experience was pretty good. They provide everything you’ll need to learn to surf including rash guards and the boards. The guys teaching were nice. I’d definitely recommend taking at least one lesson from them from anyone learning to surf.

On certain days they also sell steak, salmon, and roast beef plate lunches. Like foodland they also offer a savings card to give you extra saving on certain products.

Down to Earth is a local health food store where you can buy vegan foods, organic foods, health supplements, and other things. It’s a really good place to go to find gourmet food items that most grocery stores don’t carry too. There also have an area where you can buy dried spices (they charge by the lb) from jars to fill into plastic bags so you can buy exactly the amount you need without wasting. They also have huge storage bins where you can fill up on organic trail mixes and snacks.

Poipu Golf Course is one of the best and most difficult golf course I have ever played. There is this one hole where you have to hit the ball off the tee over a ridge. The course provides great views of the ocean. And the golf carts are state of the art equipped with a GPS which is pretty cool. And even if you don’t do so hot on the course at least you get to see some great views of the ocean. All the views and fancy equipment come at a price though. Cost per person is about $200.

Volcano Golf Course is located on the Big Island. I played there once with a few of my friends. The course difficulty was moderate. The grounds were pretty well maintained and had a peaceful feeling to it. In addition to playing on the course you also get a scenic tour where you feel in touch with nature. Usually I get pretty hot playing golf in Hawaii gut the weather when I played there was actually pretty cold ( I should have brought a jacket). Cost is about $63 a person.

ABC stores are located at every corner in Waikiki its ridiculous. It’s almost as bad as Starbucks. They cater mostly to tourists selling items such as sun block, island snacks, disposable cameras, and souvenirs. Generally the things there aren’t that cheap but you can occasionally find a good deal for some items that are on sale. They also provide and accept currency exchanges for yen.

I went there recently to buy a rash guard, which was on sale for $20 and pick up a new surf leash and some repair equipment to fix up some dings on my board. Depending what’s on sale the prices aren’t too bad.

They too also have free online banking and bill pay as well as free notary services. Their interest rates for savings accounts are as abysmal as for UHFCU. But their bank does have the added convenience of using Bank of Hawaii Bank machines with you debit card without being charged a fee.
