The Hunt Club offers pretty much everything you need if you are interested in horse shows, riding horses or boarding your horse. They offer basic plans and what would be the people equivalent of "deluxe accommodations" for your horse, including massage therapy, foot soaks, and manicures for your horse. They also have shows at least monthly, riding lessons, training, and a tack shop. I found the tack shop less expensive than the store in New Canaan where I saw the same merchandise and similar items for sale.

America's longest running summer stock theater. They feature 3 comedy nights a week, as well as plays and musicals. In a tiny quaint theater, the tickets run between $20 - $30 a performance. They do have a special deal called Six-tiks where you buy tickets at half price. At 6pm before each Thursday evening show, all unsold seats are available for half-price. You can only get that deal directly at the Ivoryton Playhouse Box Office. This makes many plays affordable for families or college students and starving artists.

Guilford Handcrafts Center has several stores with a variety of arts and handcrafts for sale. It is sort of a museum like feeling when you browse, so many items on display are so well crafted. My favorite spot is the glass blower, who makes items while you watch, and will even let you fire something yourself. They have classes and workshops and a youth program, as well as they feature various artists work in a revolving series of exhibits. Free to the public.

Powder Ridge in Middlefield is an ideal family and beginner ski area. They offer lessons for adults and children, and have two dining areas - the Café has meal or just a light snack, the café has burgers and fries to soup and salad. Hot Chocolate, soft drinks, coffee, tea and sports. Lunch or dinner at the Slope Side Restaurant & Bar is Wednesday thru Sunday. You can come in from skiing or lessons and warm up by the fire with a great view of the mountain or watch one of the big screen televisions. They are open on most holidays and offer a group rate to groups if you want to organize an event. They have several trails of various levels of difficulty; from easy beginners trails to the most difficult "insane terrain." A nice place for family outings that each can ski according to their ability and meet up for a meal together.

They offer a discount package for theater goers. Victorian period furniture in each guest room, but each room has air conditioning. They serve a full hearty breakfast that you can take at the veranda wrap around porch if the weather is nice. They are available for weddings and also have dinners. While it is a relatively small inn, they can have functions up to 150 people. Located near golfing, horseback riding, shopping, and other activities of local interest. They run a bit on the expensive side and would like not be a place that children would enjoy.
