The location of this wonderful museum is in itself worth the visit: it is housed on a retired aircraft carrier, the USS Intrepid. The visitor can wander around looking at how the sailors and pilots lived on the ship during its time of commission in World War II and up to Vietnam. On the deck and in the plane holds, the museum displays decommissioned aircraft that flew in various wars, as well as spy aircraft. In fact, the A-12 Blackbird is one of the main draws of the museum.
To top it off, the museum has recently added to its collection the legendary supersonic civilian aircraft Concorde, offered to the museum by British Airways.
Additionally, the submarine USS Growler also forms part of the museum. There, visitors can get a good feeling of the cramped quarters and claustrophobic conditions that were the norm in World War II conventional submarines.
I would vote this one of the best air and space displays around.

Try the smoothies, they are excellent.

On my travels, I have come across only a few beer specialty stores that deserve a mark of perfection, and this one is conveniently located right in Rochester.
Beers of the World offers an unbelievable selection of beers from all over the world and I was able to find even obscure brews from countries of the former Soviet Union. Perhaps even more impressively, the store prides itself in stocking an unmatched selection of American microbrews. Here, you can find legendary beers from California, Oregon and Pennsylvania, not to mention the various New York microbreweries that you read about in magazines.
Additionally, the store will often put certain beers on sale, making it more affordable to stock up on some hard-to-find items.
For anyone who truly enjoys beer, this store is a must-visit.

Even the existence of this family-owned vineyard and wine maker is surprising. It lies on a hill in the middle between two fairly affluent Rochester suburbs, Fairport and Victor, nestled comfortably between various housing developments, just minutes from the NYS Thruway. In fact, they pride themselves in being the only winery in Monroe County.
Like any good winery, they offer tours and tastings. The tour itself is informative, but the real gem are the award-winning wines. Their American Oak Chardonnay is complex with hints of spices, while their Pinot Noir is one of the driest ones in New York. But for the real treat, spring the $5 for the tasting of Fiori Delle Stelle Vidal Ice Wine, a special vintage made from frozen grapes. The wine is rightfully called a dessert wine, as its sweetness goes well with cream-based desserts.

While concentrating its business on used books, and offering a decent selection of those, The Millstone Block also specializes in carrying vintage and new collectibles and gifts. The store calls their selection "eclectic", and it is perfectly right, as you might find right next to each other items that you would never think of together. They carry books from a wide variety of fields, just not many from some. A great feature is the fact that you can view its inventory and order books on line at www.abebooks.com/home/CHM/.
The bookstore offers a trade-in feature that allows customers to trade in their unwanted books on a two-to-one basis, and comfortable chairs to sit down while you browse and/or read.

The purpose of the existence of this New Haven camera shop is twofold: firstly, it provides good developing services in the city of New Haven, and secondly, it allows people who live in the city and find themselves running critically low on photo or developing supplies to run over and quickly buy a ream of paper or some film rolls. Thankfully, this shop still exists, as the only other option to buy specialty films and paper without driving to Milford is to order them from New York. Naturally, James Photo has come of age, and now offers reasonable digital services, as well.

This jewelry shop has been in the same place for decades, and is the area's only dealer of Rolex watches. They have a small collection of estate jewelry, but do most of their business in watches. Lennon's is one of the best places to have your watch repaired in the entire Utica area, and they will repair most expensive brands, regardless of the age of the watch.
Lennon's also has a large collection of porcelain and china baby shower presents.
The drawback with their repair shop is that they will sometimes take a watch for repair and charge for the work, without explaining that the work may in fact not help the matters and the watch may just keep on breaking. Another minus point for the store is the fact that the sales and service people can be haughty and aloof, projecting an image of superiority in front of the customer.

This small shoe repair shop in Fairport village came highly recommended by certain professional shoe salesmen. The place well deserves it reputation, as the proprietor still gets business from most nearby suburbs. The owner check the shoes in himself, and does the work himself, as well. He is friendly, and makes certain that the problem is understood and taken care of. He works fast (a few days will be enough for most problems), and gets the shoes back clean and fixed.
What more can you want, really?

For residents of Fairport and tourists alike, this bot touring company offers fun and informative tours of the historic Erie Canal. The ship itself looks historic and fits right in with the creaky lift bridge in Fairport (the only true lifting bridge in the East), and the green canal sides, which for the most part looks like it did decades ago.
Another great feature of the Colonial Belle are theme and dinner nights. You can eat on the ship (the food is good enough), and sometimes the crew puts on theme nights dedicated specific singers. All in all, the ship is much fun.
