The American Visionary Art Museum is rather unique. First of all the museum building itself is a work of art. Also this museum is known as an "alternative museum" because it displays artwork by artist who are self-taught. The art is great and it's a great place to go and see art from people who have defined art for themselves, and taught themselves about art.
