Saigon Sandwiches used to be my favorite place to get Vietnamese sandwiches in the city, until I discovered Baguette Express. This place is located about one block up from their competitor, and I do believe they win out because of the sheer variety of sandwiches as compared to Saigon Sandwich. There are 10 on the menu, including shredded chicken (my favorite!), the shop is spic and span, and the french baguettes are always crusty and fresh. Talk about a deal for only $2.50 a sandwich. Fresh sugar cane juice as well, three color drink, iced coffee, and some rice plates.

Canyon Market has finally opened in the Glen Park area, just down the street from the BART Station! While it's great to have a supermarket in this neighborhood, this place is definitely on the gourmet side and I doubt I will be shopping here. The produce is mainly organic, locally grown, and extremely expensive. I'm talking about more expensive than Whole Foods, which is slightly unbelievable. Same goes with their packaged/dry foods like cereals, snacks, etc, all priced higher than the norm, even though the brand names are exactly the same.
There is an abundant deli section with prepared salads and cooked foods, daily fresh baked bread, sandwiches, and a coffee bar. I liked how they have a variety of gourmet chocolate bars such as Charles, Dagoba, etc.

I'd been wanting to try A16 for the longest time based on all the great feedback, and when I finally did, I came away with mixed feelings.
A16 is situated in the center of the Marina district, and as soon as we walked in, we could feel the air of pretentiousness and immediately felt uncomfortable. The feeling didn't leave us all night. The tables were much too close to one another to my liking, and I always felt like I was in on my neighbors' conversation and they into ours.
Anyway, on to the food! I l absolutely loved their pizza, which is in classic Italian style of a thin but not cracker-like crust and the freshest ingredients. This is surprisingly hard to find in SF. The pizza Romana was delicious and the anchovies didn't overpower everything. My boyfriend deemed his lamb entrรฉe as nothing special, and the side dish of veggies was entirely bland. Ending with a high note, we had the cheese plate for dessert, which came with a little piece of almond cake and a pot of honey. Delicious.
Great wine list and very accommodating and friendly sommelier.

This review is actually for their location at the Westfield mall. I've been disappointed in just about everything in the Westfield food court, but SF Soup Company surprised me. It's is a mini-fast food chain around the city that serves soups, salads, and sandwiches. There soups are hearty and taste great, and even though the price seems a bit steep for soup, it's actually a good value. An even better value is the bowl of soup/half sandwich or soup/salad for about $6.50.
I loved their special of the day, which was the organic beef and barley, with chunks of potato and served with a sourdough or wheat roll. The mexican chicken tortilla soup is amazing too.

I'm not expert on Filipino food, but I've had my share of Goldilocks (uggh, no thanks) and my coworkers' pancit and lumpia shanghai to know a tiny bit. At my work, we just had a huge potluck with all kinds of interesting and amazing foods that left me wanting for more.
So our visit to Ihaw Ihaw was great. They serve up homestyle Filipino food, and though we were struggling over the numerous choices on the menu, everything we tried was awesome! The ihaw ihaw (bbq) is fabulous, as is the whole fried tilipia covered in a soy sauce/onion based sauce. We also a side of delicious garlic rice, veggies stir-fried with shrimp paste. Also, try the Southeast Asian version of lemonade-but better- Calamansi juice. Great version of halo halo here as well- served with neon purple ice cream, lots of shaved ice, coconut milk, red beans and jellies.
The majority of the customers are also Filipino, which means the food must be somewhat authentic! Service is fast and friendly. We'll definitely be back to work our way through the rest of the menu.

I haven't stayed at the Argent, but my company's holiday party was held here over the weekend, where we were given the run of two floors of the ballrooms/boardrooms. I have to say that this hotel has one of the best locations- it's downtown and just a short walk from all the shopping at the Westfield Mall an Union Square. Very nice space, I could see it being a good locale for a wedding reception. Great service and staff. The food is also quite good too.

I wouldn't say the service is bad here; it's just typical of what you'd find at any Chinese restaurant. Curt but efficient. Koi Palace is one of the best in the Bay Area for dim sum, which is served every day. Huge variety and good quality. The restaurant is also reknowed for it's seafood, much of which you can see swimming in the tanks at the front. Yesterday we had our company's holiday lunch here, so I was able to try a 10 course seafood banquet. The food here is a notch above other Cantonese restaurants, with items such as abalone, sharks fin soup, and fried rice with dried scallops. One standout was the roasted duck, which was delicious.
The restaurant can get loud because it's not huge and is always crowded.

People choose to dine at the Carnelian Room because the restaurant has a fabulous panoramic views from 52 stories up. This is definitely a nice place for special occassions such as corporate events or weddings. Unfortunately the quality of the food didn't seem to match the top-notch scenery. At dinner last night, it took some serious brute strength to saw through my steak, and the creme brulee was missing the crunchy layer of crystallized sugar! It actually tasted more like pudding than creme brulee.
Not worth $50pp in my opinion, but can't complain much since it wasn't on my dime.

People don't come to Yum Yum Fish for the ambiance- they come for the super fresh sushi. This place is basically a fish shop with a counter that sells sushi grade fish and seafood. There are also 3 tables in the front where you can sit and enjoy a variety of sushi and sashimi at quite low prices. There are both traditional and modern rolls- try the rock and roll or the fresh scallop roll. The salmon skin roll and soft shell crab is great too. Hawaiian style tuna poke as well! We always get the Orchid set which has 8-9 pieces of nigiri and spicy tuna roll- great deal for only $12. They also cater sushi, with platters going from $40- $80. Typically I'd get my order to go as the store does smell overwhelmingly of fish.

Little Saigon is the only Vietnamese restaurant in the Walnut Creek/Concord area that serves up more than your typical pho noodles. This place just opened recently in the old location of Spring Garden near Trader Joes. I had low expectations based on the other Vietnamese food I've tried out here when compared to San Francisco or the south bay, but the food here was a nice suprise! The shaking beef- cubes of marinated filet mignon served with a lime dipping sauce was just as good as at Slanted Door or Bodega Bistro in SF. I also enjoyed the huge bowl of bun noodles served with beef kababs, imperial rolls, and covered in nuoc mam. There is also a good variety of cold salads, seafood, and curry dishes. Vietnamese coffee as well!
The friendly service is also appreciated and I hope this restaurant sticks around for ahwile.
