Well I finally made a visit to Parea Wine Bar and came away with mixed feelings- but mostly positive. Loved that happy hour is until 7PM, every night including weekends! What a deal- the $10 flight of wines + appetizer definitely will bring me back again. Most disappointing was the lack of variety in the menu items. I know this is a wine bar and not a restaurant, but I was still hoping for more of a solid menu- seems as though there isn't a full kitchen in the restaurant so most items offered are cold. We had the pizetta, which honestly tasted like a pita bread pizza that I could've made myself (even with my limited cooking abilities). The bruschetta was much more fulfilling and I wish we'd tried the cheese plate.
Anyway, on to the wine. Huge selection and prices seem to be reasonable. Friendly staff and they've made some substantial changes to the place since it was Oxygen Bar- nice ones too! I liked the tables with the low seating and the nook in the front by the window.

I'm in Glen Park all the time since my company shuttle drops me off there after work so I've hit most of the restaurants and shops on Diamond and Chenery. But this was the first that I'd spent a morning walking the neighborhood and my first stop was Destination Bakery. I'd heard great things about this place on Chowhound and was hoping this place would live up to the hype. Guess what, it did! Love when that happens.
While the selection isn't as large or varied as a bakery like Tartine, Destination is still a cute little place with some fabulous baked goods. We went for the freshly made cheese scones and a slice of quiche. All were delicious and I can't wait to head back for those beautiful lemon tartlets or a slice of pie. We also brought home quite possibly the best baguette I've had in a long time- fresh out of the oven and full of yeasty goodness.

Shoe Biz has some really great sales and I once found the perfect pair of flats here for $25. We were in the neighborhood yesterday so we checked in and my boyfriend walked away with a pretty cool pair of retro looking Adidas for only $40. Not bad at all.
This location has cute styles of shoes for guys and girls and most pairs are well under $100...especially the sale racks! They have a good selection of sportier stuff, like adidas, saucony, new balance, etc. For women, there are also boots, flats, heels, casual and not. Cute hipster-ish styles and a nice change from the usual stores at the mall.

Like most of the restaurants in the Westfield's new food court, Melt looked fabulous but upon tasting, was a slight disappointment. For me, the prices are crazy expensive when compared to other gelato shops in the city. $3.25 for a tiny cup of the ice-cream and only one flavor allowed. Even at Gelateria Naia (which has more flavors) a small at almost the same price allows you two flavors and a larger portion size.
Anyway, on to the gelato. The bacio, or hazelnut chocolate was one of the more delicious flavors I tried (and ended up getting). The pomegrante sorbetto was watery and tasted like kool aid, the creme brulee was oddly bland. There really weren't that many flavors here that appealed to me, whereas at Ciao Bella or Naia, I've never had that problem.

Anyone that watches Top Chef on Bravo will know of Tom Colicchio and his NYC restaurants. 'Wich Craft, in the Westfield Mall, is his newest venture, a casual restaurant serving mostly sandwiches and a few soups and salads. The location is huge and somewhat sterile, with high ceilings and two floors filled with tables. Iit was quite empty when we visited, but the place probably caters more to the FiDi lunchtime crowd.
I had half a goat cheese sandwich (filled with avocado, watercress, and of course goat cheese) along with potato cheddar soup. Both were actually pretty decent and the soup had a nice kick to it. One complaint was the sandwich was a bit soggy and made it harder to eat. The ingredients seem to be top quality and flavors were there as well. My friend enjoyed her grilled steak and shitake mushroom sandwich too. Now the pricing- about $9 for a somewhat smaller sized sandwich with no sides, but it was still a fulfilling lunch.

Yamo is my new favorite whole-in-the-wall for great food at dirt cheap prices. I love all Southeast Asian food, and was thrilled to hear of an alternative to Burma Superstar. Yes, Yamo Thai Kitchen is now actually a Burmese restaurant. Well, Yamo lived up to the hype. It's a tiny family run joint, with the mom cooking up the food and the daughter working the cashier. No tables- you sit at the bar up front or order take out.
And the food! Average price is under $6. I highly recommend the samusas which are at steal at $3.50 for half a dozen. Filled with potatoes and just the right amount of spice, and perfect when dipped into the chili pepper/fish sauce. The other dish I tried was the house noodles, which were simply flour noodles stir fried with garlic and chicken. I really haven't had a noodle dish this good since I was in Asia and it had just the right amount of flavor and oil.
Can't wait to go back for the tea leaf salad, fish chowder, and fresh coconut juice.

Out of the three (count them, three!) newish Vietnamese noodle restaurants in the PH/Concord area, this is my favorite. There are a variety of pho noodles here, with the option of type of noodle and bowl size. The large is HUGE, so I usually stick with the medium. I like the soup broth of the traditional beef pho, but my mom loves the seafood noodle soup. And you can't beat the price at only $5.25 each. My other favorite here is the soup-less bun noodles with grilled beef or chicken and imperial rolls on top. you pour the nuoc mam (spicy fish sauce) over it and it's so delicious! My only complaint is that they never give enough sauce so I have to ask for double. Another great thing here is their blended milk-shake like drinks with boba. I love the durian and avocado, but for the less adventurous there's also mango, taro, honeydew, etc.

My friends and I came to this bar/lounge because we were looking for a place to have a few drinks before heading out to North Beach. This place is on the edge of Chinatown and North beach and isn't that big- just a bar area with a small dance floor at the end. We actually came here to check out their outdoor patio that everyone raves about, but it was closed to only VIPs.
I liked the beautiful wood bar top and how the dj was spinning at a little set up built into it. Pretty cool. I thought there wasn't enough seating to call this place a lounge, and we all thought the drinks were less than stellar. The bartender was less than friendly and all our drinks tasted awful. Mine wasn't mixed and tasted like juice at the top and straight vodka at the bottom. Even after I stirred it, it still tasted awful.

Zara is a clothing store out of Spain that has branches all over the world and now, finally, in San Francisco. I love their clothes as they are reasonably priced (especially when they have their mega sales!), stylish and well made. They have basics, career wear, and casual styles for both men and women. I like their location on Post Street as it's 3 floors and has more of a selection than their newest store at the Westfield Mall. This store definitely gives places like GAP or Banana Republic some competition as their prices are lower and they often have nicer stuff!

I remember going when Hubcaps first opened and it was the new kid on the block- now the place is a Walnut Creek institution. I tried breakfast here recently and was amazed at how great the food was. Hubcaps follows the typical 50's diner look with shiny booth seats, a front counter, and friendly waitstaff. But the menu is updated and contains lots of appealing items. Much, much better than the greasy food found at Mel's or the like. The belgian waffles were delicious, as were the pancakes. My boyfriend loved his Mexican style omelet and thought the flavors were awesome. Nice to find a place with solid food, good prices, and regular sized portions.
