There is usually a line, and if you haven't heard your name it isn't ready yet. It's relatively fast, filling and just greasy enough.
A tasty (not like bun within a bun) veggie burger, but get it verde (with jalapenos and cheese.)
Outdoor picnic tables too.
Get a chocolate chip mint shake and you're good to go.

A great little Italian spot. Go early unless you want to hang out in the tiny bar for drinks, which is not a bad time but your bill will add up quickly.
With many entrées around a ten-spot, you can get in and out at a decent price if you don't add too many tasty appetizers, salads, or drinks.
The simple green salad with gorgonzola is tasty, as is the tuna carpaccio (sp?). The gnocci is delicious, as is the penne, or the roast chicken. If you feel starved for a little green stuff, ask the server if you can get a side of the veggies that come with the chicken entrée. It must be all stock and butter and garlic to taste so good, but at least you are getting your vitamins.
The servers here are real career waiters, they know their stuff and they are good in a not too friendly/not too aloof kinda way.

A nice little store, too little for your regular shopping, nothing special enough to make it a destination stop, except maybe the decent wine selection. Suffers from a location too small to make a serviceable grocery.
It's a great place to stop for a quick drink and a snack, or even for a picnic at Volunteer park.
It is very committed to organic, and the produce is usually priced great. But run in for a bottle of molasses and they will be out of stock, or they just don't carry that item. Or you get half of your shopping list and have to go to the other natural grocery on the hill for the rest.
It's a store that you wish was so much more than it is.

There was a time when I found the checkers too obnoxious to bear, but it seems like there is less attitude than a few years back.
As a regular shopper since the days of the original Central Co-op, I can say that this store has certainly evolved a bit.
They are a decent medium sized natural grocery, they have most things you want, but they don't have some of the must-haves, which means a trip to a second store for the necessities. Since Trader Joe's opened next door I shop there more, because if Madison Market is out of whole organic chickens, for instance, which has happened many times, I pop on over to Trader Joe's and pick up one there, along with a much cheaper pound of butter.
As for the pricing, I have more than once not gotten the discount promised on the shelf sale tag, have been charged more than the produce tag (or the produce person indicates when I often can't find a produce price) but they will fix price errors, just check your receipt. Also, they run high on produce prices sometimes, they need a better source when their cherries are 7.99 and the farmers markets sell organic cherries for around 4.00.
I also have had a few too many bad meat experiences, and one questionable seafood incident, so every so often that puts me off of buying the meat.
But they are all we have on this side of the ship canal besides a few PCCs way down south. And they do try to get it right.
The friendly factor is up at the, now if only the workers would not block the whole aisle and half the produce department while they stock the bins.

Sure, you can drop a bundle here, they have everything from duck confit to caviar to out of season cherries. But you can also get everything in one place, and get some decent deals on "365 brand" items and "whole kids" foods.
The meat department aims to please, they will cut up and skin a chicken, make ribs into rib-lets, butterfly a porkchop, cut wings into drumettes, whatever cutting you want done so that you barely have to touch the meat when you get home, and at no extra charge.
There is a wide selection, much more complete than your average natural grocery. You don't get the "buy local" feel-good factor like you would at one co-op groceries, but you also don't have to be frustrated because they probably do have the organic European butter you are looking for.

Anne Phyfe runs 3 yoga studios and still has time to teach an awesome prenatal yoga class. It's relaxing but still a good bit of exercise. Yoga breathing was the best thing I did to help prepare for a natural birth experience. The teachers will work with you to modify poses to your comfort level. You encouraged to listen to your body and take a break if it's too much for you, but I did like Anne Phyfe's gentle reminder that we might have to learn to stick out something uncomfortable for a little longer when we were in labor.

A nice likable store. The quality of consigned clothes isn't consistent, but they always have something fabulous. And it seems that they've eliminated the tie-dye factor, a definite plus. Cool shirts for kids "got breastmilk", etc.
Ask for the Madison Market member discount if you qualify.

Meat eaters can go there and feel satisfied, there is a good selection of tasty food.
They do have a kid's menu, and will bring crayons.
Adults that are gluten free will find flavorful choices on the menu, but none of the items on the kid's menu say that they are GF. The items listed as GF are too spicy for kids, but the staff will try and work with you and accommodate your needs. The best option is the GF waffles for brunch.
I have one Gluten Free daughter and one that gets sick from eggs, and we always find something they can eat.

I had two babies with these very experienced and excellent midwives. The first time with Marge Mansfield at the Community Birth Center at Montlake, and the second baby with Suzy Myers and at home. I chose how I gave birth, where I gave birth, what I ate. It was a safe, gentle, positive and wonderful experience two times. I was the one to announce the gender of both babies, a special moment for me.
