The Shannon's have been in the art business in Connecticut for about 30 years.
As former antique dealers and owners of a retail art gallery in Orange, their primary focus has always been, 19th- and early 20th-century American and European paintings. Spurred on by the belief that the individual art dealer was going to become a dinosaur due to the escalating prices and a vanishing supply of fresh merchandise to the market, they took a page from big auction houses like Sotheby's and the Shannons got into the auction business.
Now they conduct the daily business in a large, expanded gallery space, with paintings worth millions discreetly hanging within the confines of a nondescript strip mall.
Bi-annual auctions are conducted in the Greenwich Civic Center.

I had some friends who lived near New York Woodbury Common Outlets, so I couldn't understand why they wanted to come shopping down here in Orange when there were so many great deals to be had at the outlets. They had heard about people coming in from NYC to go to Consignment Originals to buy dress, shoes, purses, some housewares, and jewelry. I went, but I wasn't happy about it.
Well, I was wrong. I can't say I found outlet level bargains, but they did have shoes from Joan and David, some NYT best seller books at cheap prices, I got a few cute outfits on their down and out clearance rack, and they had a few cute costume jewelry pieces. I also found a vintage purse from the 1930's or 1940's in great condition that looked great for $8!
Many are impressed with their clothing being as current - they're aren't outfits from the late 80's here - just current items you can wear to work or social occasions. Everything is in good condition as well.

An extensive array of used on consignment furniture in good condition, some bargains can be found here. They are located in the back so they might be alittle hard to find if you are coming from the Orange/West Haven side. If you consign some furniture here and do not pick it up after a certain number of days, the terms are that they will keep it. But you can sell of unused or furniture you don't need, which is nice since most local consignment shops will not take pieces as large as dining room sets or beds, which they will take here. Store is clean and items are maintained well. It is within the general furniture store district, but many of those places (Hitchcock, Ethan Allen type stores) are somewhat pricey. I have not seen a large amount of actual antiques or collectibles here, but definately some quality pieces, nothing seemed too trendy or junky.

If you are planning an event that you need liquor in quantity (party, wedding, etc) you can get great deals here. I was impressed by the variety and how knowledgable the staff was. I expected a discounted facility to sort of have that off-brand dusty feel to it, but with the exception of having shopping carts, it looked just like any other liquor shop. They have a large selection and deals are to be had in volume. They also have a small clearance bin if you are just looking for a few bottles or you don' t need multiples of the same vintage and can use a variety. They are very helpful and have been seen helping people carry their orders out to their car. The parking is around the back, so don't be intimidated by the initial appearance of limited parking on the tiny side driveway.

I find it harder and harder to find duckpin bowling in the New Haven area, but Woodlawn is the same as it was when I was a kid. It sort of feels like a family place in some 1950's "Happy Days" sort of place, with a limited food bar of the standards, and vending machines with some candy type snacks. This is a real hole in the wall, but I am surprised how it appears bigger inside. I like that even little kids can bowl here, and I suppose seniors or those with back problems might prefer duckpin. It was more expensive than I remembered, but so is going to the movies or doing anything else. Nice to occupy a kid for the afternoon, and its not crowded during the day.

This doctor is as smart as they come, and understands areas of medicine I never even heard of before. An expert at any kind of vertigo, dizziness - whether due to an inner ear disturbance, head injury, or injury to the spine (a herniated disk in your neck can make you dizzy, as can a jaw injury) He diagnoses and treats balance disorders, hearing problems, as well as head and neck surgery. He tracked down the source of a problem on me that had alluded many other doctors, and then did the correct diagnostic testing to make sure that is what I had. He does not do unnecessary tests, and is empathetic towards his patients. People come from all over to see him, ranging from children to adults. He can recommend some of the best treating physical therapists and hearing aid specialists. He even knows physical therapists for vertigo and vestibular problems, which is very difficult to find in CT.

It seems lots of doctors are so busy these days that you leave the office not understanding what is wrong or how to get it fixed. Parker will take all the time you need to explain x-rays, treatments, he is very gentle with exams, and conservative in his treatment. I had a TMJ injury and was so tired of it that I was ready to have surgery, without really understanding how serious a surgery I was asking for. He calmly explained to me some alternatives, such as physical therapy, a splint, some anti-inflammatories, etc. By the end of that, I still needed a surgery, but a much much small one. I have been told that other doctors would not have been so patient with the matter and pressured me into a big surgery = which I learned from one of the physical therapists meant cutting all the way around the face to get to the joint. The surgery I had was minor and he did such a good job cutting I can't even see the scar. The next day it wasn't even swollen - the physical therapists were amazed. Kind and caring, and their are good magazines in the lobby.

A lovely selection of perrienials, shrubs, flowers. There is also a limited tree selection. The staff is friendly, attentive, and very willing to help. Good deals can be found during sales. I think the peonies here are very pretty and so far have faired well in my garden each year. I did expect a bit more of unusual or exotic items, but perhaps the association with the magazine of the same name made me think of more exotic landscapes than one would typically expect in a garden center.

I received a gift of a spa day here, and found the staff to be professional, did not talk excessively, gave a good massage without being too aggressive, I got a wonderful exfoliation and my facial extended onto my neck and shoulders, which was great. When I had my makeup done afterwards, I was disappointed that she did a very minimal makeup job when she found out I did not normally wear foundation, but I still would have liked a more dramatic eyemakeup and perhaps some contouring, etc even if I did not wear a full face. My friend who wears foundation though did not have this problem. All products are carefully selected to avoid allergic reactions. They are a wonderful relaxing spa.

Nadia is great - she is open and is always ready to discuss the latest skin care products - what would work well for your skin and what is a waste of money. She has freebie samples of skin care products all over the place and usually sends me out with a little goodie bag of samples. She is great if you have a special event coming up (and understands an event where you might see an ex-boyfriend or girlfriend requires clear skin!). She can get the tiniest blackheads and whiteheads out without causing scarring and only leaves tiny incisions when she does it. I also appreciate that she will not attempt to do remove pimples that might leave a scar and recommends a different treatment for that. The entire staff is super friendly. It takes a long time to get an appointment - book early for a special event. Also, she has great magazines in the lobby to read!
