This is a local business that has clearly taken its location into account when choosing their movie selection. They don't have as many copies of new releases as the Buster or the comfort of Net Flix, but they have a good selection of independent films. They do carry quite a bit of VHS, which could be useless or great, depending on your equipment.

I usually stop here fro a bagel and cream cheese and a cup of coffee, but there is a whole lot more. The bagels are always fresh with a perfect texture. Like many New York bagel places, you definitely have to specify the amount of spread you want, unless you want just a bit of bagel with your cream cheese.

There are plenty of things to choose from and you are bound to find something that you like. I usually come in for a cup of coffee and a great whole wheat croissant. It is a great place to get desserts for when you are having people over. The flourless chocolate cake and the apple pie are amazing!

While their cars are usually on the slightly raggedy side and the dispatcher is everything but friendly, you can count on getting timely service for a fair price (e.g., $15 from Prospect Heights to Lower East Side and about $30 from Prospect Heights to Laguardia---comparable to a metered Yellow Cab ride).

This place is well situated in Park Slope, but it has very little to offer other than a strange selection of shoes. I am particular about shoes, but usually I am able to find something that would be close to what I like. There was nothing there for me other than Blunstones, but they were over priced. The customer service was okay, but mostly parve.

They might not have it in stock, but they are quick to get it for you. You will not find a Starbucks in here or any other coffee for that matter, but you will find a friendly staff and a fun atmosphere to look at books. The prices are competitive with the BIG chain book stores, particularly if you are not looking for oversized cook books.

As the name suggests, this place is all about hummus. And this is the real stuff! Last time I was there the hummus came with fluffy warm pita bread, but sometimes they don't have it. Although the pita makes a big difference, the hummus stands on it's own. A small Israeli salad and one order of hummus should make a nice light meal for two. One hummus order per person is slightly over the top even for hummus lovers.

When you come to get waxed, you want it done well and you want it done fast. A full Brazilian will take you under 7 minutes. It's also nice when it is done for a reasonable price by nice people that make you feel comfortable and safe. The place is clean and the people are no nonsense. Another good part is that you can book an appointment the same day, but they are closed for Jewish holidays. They offer a lot of other services, but I cannot comment on those.

Do not be fooled by the somewhat obscure location. This part of Prospect Heights has not been considered a dining area, but Gen is worth the short hike from the "just okay" sushi of most Park Slope joints. This place serves great sushi for an excellent price. I eat here at least twice a month and I always make sure to get the Saku Saku roll and Dragon Roll. You can also get a pint of Sapporo for eight dollars.

This is a nice neighborhood shop with friendly service. It is just a few steps from the corner of Flatbush, jut off the 7 Ave Q stop. You will not get frowned upon for wanting to try MANY frames. And there are many frames to choose from for fairly competitive prices. You get a free eye exam (available on Saturday) with a purchase of frames and lenses.
