Good IMAX movies, decent exhibits

Friday, August 19, 2005
For my birthday, I got surprised with a membership to the Reuben Fleet Science Center. Deep down, I am a huge science geek, and I love seeing the exhibits and special programs that science centers usually have. Unfortunately, the Reuben Fleet Science Center, does not have many rotating exhibits and if they do, they are a very small portion of the actual space (the Einstein one was in one small area near the IMAX line and consisted of a few signs that gave a timeline of Einstein's life and career -- hardly scintillating). They do have a good show called "the stars at night" which shows constellations and afterwards, the local astronomy society has telescopes outside for you to peek at the sky. Otherwise the exhibits are the typical ones you see at most every science centers. Several exhibits were closed because they were broken, and they don't seem to get fixed very quickly. It makes me sad because I think maybe the science center is underfunded and/or underutilized. The Science Center is apparently wired for free wifi, although I've never successfully gotten it to work. They do have several IMAX movies showing, so you do have a choice, although they don't change them very often. They do change a special featured one on a weekly basis for Friday nights though.
