I used to use the bibelot for emergencies because they have tons of unique cards and little gifts for adults and children. I like everything there except the clothes, but I'm no fashion maven. It can be a little expensive, but some of the stuff you can only get there. Overall a nice gift and card shop.

The original theaters are OK. They are big and nice and have good sound. Stay away from the ones in the back though. They are full size theaters that were cut up to make multiple screens. Each is about the size of a large screen TV (ok maybe 6 ft). They also have a walkway down the middle which takes the best seats. Just call ahead an find out if your movie is showing in a full size theater or a small one.

If you are a resident of Dayton's Bluff, the council headquarters offer a variety of services. You can pick up recycling bins, signs, neighborhood papers, take small business classes, find legal services, and a lot more. It is also where the District Council meets, a locally elected group of neighbors who review code variance requests, review development proposals and try to improve the neighborhood. They are always looking for people willing to volunteer with neighborhood cleanups, park plantings and the like. Feel free to call and talk to Karin, the community organizer.

This is CLUES, Chicanos Latinos Unidos En Servicio's, latest office. It is an attractive brick building on E 7th. It now houses a Mexican Consulate, and is one of the best services on the east side of Saint Paul. It frequently has lines out the door when it opens, so get there early. They provide job training, mental health counseling, Education programs and lots more. A great organization and this is one of their best locations.

This is what you think of when you imagine an old fashioned Co-op. Not the modern kind like Whole Foods. These guys still do mostly bulk products as well as some prepackaged stuff. They encourage membership which is the old kind where you actually have to work. They have a large selection of locally grown organic produce, even some frozen prepared foods. Bring your plastic and paper bags, 'cause they can always use them. Really nice co-op all around without the snobbery of uptown.

I used them for a refinance too, and I also found them to be competent. They had the lowest rates I could find and I liked using all the calculators to view how long I would be in debt. They are just a broker, which means they don't service your mortgage, and sell it quickly. Still, for the short time I dealt with them they were great. I recommend them liberally.

It is still called Dayton's Outlet Store in the phone book, but it must be Marshall Fields now, or something. Anyway, we got our brand new leather couch here for half what it cost in the store. No visible damage, I guess it was discontinued. You can find great stuff and on Saturday when they have their warehouse sales, better get there early. Nuts line up at 5 AM to get in first. Tons of selection.

Dick and Jim are your typical old-time barbers. They keep being shuffled around to different store-fronts, and are now down to one chair. Both of them are good. You have to go to the back of the women's salon to find them, but they are there (or one is at a time). I've been going since I was 8, so I guess I think they do a good job. They are affordable too.

This airport is great for all the wealthy corporate clients who have jets there, like 3M or St. Paul Companies. If you live around it and don't like the jets flying low enough to read their registration numbers, you might not be as excited about it. If you have a noise complaint, call (651) 224-2203, but don't expect a callback, or for anything to change. One thing you could always do if you don't have a jet of your own is learn how to fly from their pilot school. Or, you could come over to the bluff and watch the planes zoom 100 feet over your head. A good time is had by all.

El Burrito Mercado is the best and biggest Mexican grocery in St. Paul. They have anything you could want including many authentic Mexican items I don't even know what to do with. They also have prepared foods, a small cafe, CDs and a variety of imported crafts. All their food is top notch. Generally a great time, although I wish I spoke Spanish so that I could do more than just pay the cashier and nod.
