Seven Corners Hardware has everything you could want when it comes to hardware. They tend to cater to professionals, so you sometimes feel a little bit inadequate asking for "that thing that goes between the pipe and that other thing." They also are only open business hours, so don't bother going late. They have an incredible catalog that you can have for free that has everything they sell. They aren't the cheapest, but they do know their stuff.

KNOW is the best way to get national and local news. I wish I didn't have to work so that I could listen to all the great programming they have. I think they are a little weak on the weekend, but from 6 AM-12 AM they have great shows. I listen to them exclusively while driving (except for the pledge drives). If you want to learn a little something, you could do a lot worse than listening to the folks at 91.1.

I wasn't expecting much when I first went to the Cellars, but the won me over with their huge selection, sale prices and knowledgeable staff. Since they expanded into the storefront next door, they now have tons of wine, liquor and beer. I admit I am a sucker for beer on sale, and they usually have something for cheap - maybe a lemon lambic, or the lion stout from Sri Lanka. The guys there area very helpful and seem to have had most of the beers (in fact I wanted to work there when I found out they have staff tastings to familiarize them with the goods).

This is my everyday liquor store. If I don't want something fancy or rare, they have it. It has horrible atmosphere and no staff to speak of. You are on your own, but when you are just trying to get a quick 12 pack, that's all you need. They don't take themselves too seriously, so don't expect much. Also, they require IDs from everyone in the party, so don't bring your little sister!

If you don't want to have to search through produce and meats for the "good" one, you should go to Byerly's. They have great vegetables, a wide variety of meats fresh and frozen and all the usual things that a grocery store should have. You might pay 5 cents more for a can of beans, but isn't it worth it to have good service and high quality products? Over a year the difference on the non-perhishables might be as much as 20 bucks. I think life is too short to suffer bad food.

I am a member of Jazz 88.5 KBEM, I hope that doesn't disqualify me from writing my review. They really have the best public radio music programming. And it isn't just soft jazz, like some stations. I listen to them at home all the time during meals or doing dishes or whatever. The Saturday morning Bluegrass show is a great addition to local radio offerings and the only place to get it that isn't online. They are also independent public and fund raise separately from Minnesota Public Radio. The only thing that is a little strange is the school news, which can be a little trying to listen to, although the kids seem to enjoy it!

I have to say that I am torn between Summit and Schell's for #1 in Minnesota, but I think Summit takes it. The awesome goodness of EPA and IPA make them a handy beer to pick up at any time without worries that it might be bad. Then their seasonals are just as good. There is no better beer than their Oatmeal Stout, and the others are nearly as good. It should be required that all bars in St. Paul carry Summit. That is a warning...

Bill's Imported Foods has an entire row of olive oils. Every country in the middle east and Mediterranean and more. And I'm talking first cold pressed to the crap they throw away. All kinds in 2 liter containers. They have bulk dried fruits & herbs. They have lots of kinds of feta and they are the only place I know with multiple varieties of medjool dates, even organic! They have Kinder eggs from Germany, fermented yogurt drinks from Syria, Juices from Iran, basically everything imported that you can imagine AND its cheap. They aren't open on Sunday, but every other day you should go!

The Coffman Union Theater is the campus theater for the U of M. Because the U is so big, they get good movies like a dollar theater would have, but they are free. The theater is big and spacious, but it fills up quickly. It is a mostly student crowd so it can get noisy, but comedies are more fun with all the laughter. I would check their website to see what is showing. Grab some food in the area and take in a free movie. The only downside again is the poor sound quality - they need some bigger speakers. Oh, they also have speeches and the like in the theater sometimes.

I have gone to the film society many times. Usually, I go to see foreign films. I have seen a couple Swedish, one Finnish and some others. It is always sparsely populated, so there are plenty of seats available. I just wish they would get a better sound system. They have something for everyone and students, faculty and staff at any school get a discount.
