The supermarket of choice for most locals, this supermarket has it all. Two sushi chefs continually roll fresh sushi as you walk into the supermarket, a cell phone import stand on your left sporting all the coolest add-ons for any phone, a jewelry store and herbal store further back to accomodate the older crowd. These are all conveniences, but the customer come for fresh seafood and meats. With daily shipments of seafood and meats, you'll find locals lining up around the block to get the freshest fish and cuts of meat. You'll also notice that most of the prices are at least half of what you'll normally find in an American supermarket so you'll generally see one or two caucasians sneaking in a purchase. Nothing to be ashamed about, come by if you are looking to eat fresh!

One of the few surviving arcades left in New York City, Chinatown Fair is definately a place to visit. Once known for it's tic-tac-toe chicken the arcade has grown up and out to accomodate the new age gamers. With three dance dance revolution machines, four linked super GT racing machines, the latest fighting games, you can always find great competition. The good thing is that it's open late so it's never too late to challenge a buddy in a game of street fighter!

After the fire that left an old church abandoned, the owners decided to renovate the basement and start a bookstore. You wouldn't be able to spot it at first thinking it was a buddhist temple of some sort but one step inside and there's no mistake that you've stepped into BJ. Inside you'll find shelves of good chinese literature, very rare in manhattan and a good selection of unique chinese calligraphy utensils. Towards the back is a small collection of imported Chinese replica art. These are very good replicas and may be mistaken for the real thing when you look at the prices but don't make the mistake of buying it (those prices are priced to be negotiated). Even if you're not in the mood to buy anything I would recommend just walking in and taking a look to absorb the culture.

Originally located on canal street, the owners of Pearl River Mart decided to open a larger, more modern version of their store. What they decided was to put an emphasis on the more commercialized aspects of the asian culture. Inside you'll find tons of decorative china, wood furniture, traditional chinese garments and so forth. There are also a lot of small nifty things you can buy such as sanrio stationary. Definately a place to stop by if you ever decide to walk broadway.

Tutors on call is a school offering tutoring for children looking to gain an advantage in school. I have always promoted sending children to tutors but Tutors on call come to you. The teachers aren't as enthusiastic as you would like them to be but you can tell that this is probably a side job and not something they want to pursue further. The lesson plans are good for children in elementary school but doesn't seem as challenging from middle school and on. If you don't have a flexible schedule then this is the place for you but if you can cater to the teachers then there are better tutors out there.

If you've never been a fan of beef jerky then it's time to for you to try these. Unlike American beef jerky, these meats are freshly grilled and flavored on the spot. There are a 20-30 different flavors to choose from and the meats taste very fresh. They sell by the pound and it's always smart to buy an extra pound or two because most likely the people around you will steal all of it.
