The Duke Gardens are nationally known for their vastness and beauty. It does cost to park, but only during certain times of the day, and often the ticket machine is out of order. A popular place for weddings, it is one of the most beautiful places around. Come enjoy a picnic, play frisbee with your dogs, or watch the ducks on one of the many ponds. The Doris Duke center is also a nice addition with a beautiful space that can be rented out.

There are activities for kids, but plenty for big kids as well. You don't even have to know anything about or even like baseball. There is tons of food options from fried dough to healthy, fresh sandwiches. A must do event that will be a great time!

For a long time no one knew much about Guglhupf except it had a crazy name. Slowly it has evolved from being a tucked away bakery to a full service cafe and bakery. Their baked goods are hands down the best in the area. Their cafe that opened up this past year is even better than expected. The menu has a wide variety of offerings to satisfy everyone. There are light meals such as a bread basket or warm sandwiches and soup. The cafe and the bakery are separate, which is great so you don't have to wait in one line for the other.

George's offers everything from a quick bite for lunch to a sushi bar to a full bar to a sit-down dinner. There is also dancing at night on the weekends. My favorite thing about George's is their lunch. It is called the marketplace and offers freshly made sandwiches as you wait, an enormous variety of salads, hot foods, and baked goods to satisfy the pickiest of sweet tooths. The price is equivalent to a super-sized meal at a fast food place but the food is unparalled. So stop in for lunch or any of the other options George's has to offer.

My husband and I spent while searching through Durham for a decent sushi restaurant and stumbled upon Yamazushi. Tucked away in the Woodcroft shopping center, it is a wonderful Japanese restaurant. It offers a full sit-down menu including tempura as well as sushi. There is also a sushi bar. The sushi is the freshest around and it is prepared expertly. Truly the best spicy tuna we've found as well as come fun local rolls. The owners and wait staff are as friendly and welcoming as can be and are there to make sure you have the best experience possible.

This is a chain of delicious fondue resteraunts. It is a little pricey for two, but if you go with a few people there is plenty of food for all and the price is great. There is a wide variety to select from and no matter what you choose you will leave stuffed. Elaine's is a wonderful resteraunt with incredible food matched with incredible service. Our first experience there was on our wedding anniversary and it couldn't have been more pleasant. The food is contemporary southern with multiple options and a chef who with some advanced warning is willing to accomodate special eating needs. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. It is a little small with only two tables by the windows. They are great raised tables in thier own little alcove so it is worth calling ahead for reservations to try and get the window seats.
