The La Brea Tar Pits are an excellent place to go if you want to learn about things such as the wooly mammoths of ancient times. This place would probably more exciting to a child in grade school as it would fascinate their minds.
They have actual tar pits on the location and there is a demonstration that shows exactly how sticky the stuff is. Definitely a place to go if you live in the Metro area.
