Big selection here. It's definitely not a pro shop or anything, but for the general band/orchestra/etc. sorta needs this place probably has a bigger selection than anything in the area, along with a lot of the stranger percussion "toys". Lots of good studio space here for private lessons, which is a good bonus, plus they host JW Pepper sheet music in the back, which is a good addition.

I grew up in Renton going to the original McLendon's and have been happy to see a couple of branches open up down here in Pierce County. This place has everything you could ever want, and unlike the big boxes, the workers here actually know where to find it all. Going to McLendon's is always a wonderful experience from beginning to end, and if it was closer to me I'd do all of my hardware shopping there.

Gotta love a place you can find good bulk spices. And bulk teas, for that matter. This is a really cool kitchen store that also has various other decorative things about and overall kind of a garden-y feel to the place. Fun to just browse around in, though eventually you start to want to buy things, so if you're just window shopping you might not want to stay too long. Worth a visit.

I've enjoyed this dentist for the last 3 years. The hygienists are really nice and don't reef on anything too much, they have the latest technology in the office, and Dr. Kerr is a cool guy who seems to really know what he's doing. It's a ways away from my house, but I've kept going back because I'm happy with the service I've gotten at Dr. Kerr's office. It doesn't hurt that they're not blaring easy listening music all the time, either.

We have gotten our heating oil from Pacific Northwest Energy since we moved into our house 4 years ago. The delivery guys are always way nice, so that's a big bonus, and they have a good auto-fill agreement set up that keeps our tank full. We've had one instance of running out of oil, but calling their emergency hotline got someone out to our house that night to fill the tank. They sell biodiesel as well, but our furnace is too old at this point to run it. Maybe someday when we upgrade we can take that step. (We run biodiesel in both of our cars.)

Randy and his crew are great painters and great people. They do nothing but great work. We had some really specific colors picked out that we wanted used on our house, but they presented some difficulty because some of the darker shades were likely to have trouble with fading/chalkiness. Randy came through on helping us get paint that was going to do the job in the colors we wanted, and the house looks great. Definitely a first-call dude. (And he can play some mean trumpet, too.)

Bob can make anything happen. We have had Wiener Construction do a variety of jobs, large and small, from residing our house in hardiplank, to finishing in our back porch, to doing plaster patching work. Bob is a quick worker, extremely friendly, does quality stuff, and is really resourceful with the tricky parts of the job. I call him first if I need anything done, and would suggest him to anyone else w/o hesitation.

Dr. Thorpe has thus far been very helpful and friendly on all of my visits. Seems like a very down to earth guy, so visits are always pleasant as well as productive. The staff in his office are also very courteous, which is always a bonus. If I'm going to nitpick about anything, it would just be that the office waiting room has low ceilings and no windows. But that's just being way picky.

PLU is a good place to go to school. People tend to be friendly and laid back, and generally pretty inclusive. I think this may have something to do with the lack of a Greek system there. Anyway, lots of great professors are on staff, and you really get to experience a breadth of stuff with the liberal arts focus. PLU also tries to put a focus on living lives of service, which is a bonus to the community and the world. Sure, it's in a kind of ghetto part of town, but the campus itself is beautiful.

Point Defiance park is simply an amazing oasis in Tacoma. The trails that crisscross the park offer an amazing variety of terrain with beatiful views and walks through old growth forest. The 5 Mile Drive is an enjoyable biking route, especially on Saturday mornings when it is closed to cars. Owen Beach is somewhat of a teen hangout, but if you hike north out towards the point there is a lot of great wild shoreline too see including some awesome clay bluffs. At low tide you can hike all the way around the point. This park is one of my favorite places in the world.
