Steve's is everything I expect in a pizzeria: There are the secluded booth tables, the conventional tables in the middle of the dining area, the obligatory video games or pinball, and absolutely, hands down, awesome pizza. I can't tell you why the pizza is so good, but I think it is a combination of the crust and the configuration of the toppings. The crust is on the thin side, but very tasty, and the creation or baking of it is very distinct. The toppings are at once like Pizza Huts, but somehow better. They also make great cheesy breadsticks. The prices are exactly what you'd expect to pay, and it's hard not to overindulge.

This is one of the few places in Sacramento that carries a large selection of real sapphires. They also have a good selection of other stones, as well as the stuff you'd expect to see in the Malls. I have had my wedding ring resized here, and they did a great job, can't see the join, and they left the engraving intact. The prices are good, which is a bit of a surprise. Overall, this is located near the Mall, but makes an excellent alternative to the places you'd find in the mall. Repairs and resizing are done in the store, and do not take too long. Staff are friendly, and not overbearing.

The newly remodelled Sara's is unfortunately right next to a Supercuts. I can't imagine it's easy to make ends meet with that kind of competition, but Sara's is worth passing up the major chain. The staff are friendly, and remember the customers. The prices are great, and there is rarely a line. They sell a few lines of hair supplies, and are unisex. The haircuts I get there are always good, and it's nice to not have to tell someone each time how you want your hair done. Once they remember you, then it's "the usual." I would recommend this place over any other in Sacramento.

Formerly Murder Burger, before they got all politically correct, RedRum Burger takes the burger stand and does a nice homage to it. You can get the greasy, fat laden cheeseburgers of old, but that's not all. They also have the low-fat Turkey burger, which, without any sauces, makes an excellent and healthy meal. The only thing about RedRum Burger is the price. They have the quintessential Six-Dollar burger, and it seems a little expensive for what you get. The ambiance is terrible, so eat outside if possible. Lots of flys, and the furnishings aren't very clean. But hey, that's part of the experience, right?

Considering how few small businesses even carry Macintosh, it's nice to know that there is a competent repair shop in town just in case things go wrong. Core Care has been around for a very long time, and service just about any Apple product you could bring to them. They sell a few items in the shop, but it's not much to look at for browsing. Overall, I would take my equipment here if it was out of warranty. Great place to go for odd parts for old Macs.

I strongly recommend this Hospital for regular veterinary services as well as the more complex medical issues. They work in the north part of Sacramento, so if you are closer to this place than Campus Commons Pet Hospital, this is the place to be. The staff are friendly and accomodating, and the veterinarians are good, thorough, and friendly. They present the pet's needs in an easy to understand language, and tell you what is most critical. They then advise you on what would be the best use of your money, whether the pet can wait on a medical issue until something more pressing can come up so they can do it all at once, or doing it in stages.

The Firehouse is a historic site in Old Sacramento, located, as one might expect from the name, in the old fire station of Old Sacramento. The high ceilings in the place certainly give the impression of spaciousness, but it is really a crowded, noisy little restaurant. The food is on the average side of sit down dining, and the prices, while not expensive, are not what I would want to pay for a meal of that quality. Overall a trendy place to go, and convenient after a day of shopping, but I would avoid this for anything other than as a curiosity.

With Comics Etc. folding up and closing all their Sacramento locations, it's nice to know that there are still places to find comic books. This small store has an excellent selection of all the current comics, and a decent assortment of back issues. They also carry some videos, and anime toys and nick-nacks. The staff are friendly enough, and the prices are what you'd expect. I don't know if they offer a subscription service like Comics Etc, so it might be worth a call first. Conveniently located near the Arden Fair mall.

This is certainly the place to go when you don't want to search all over town. They sell tons of plants, trees, landscaping accessories, tools, chemicals, etc. Their prices are a little high, but they make up for it with one stop shopping. The staff are also very knowledgable and helpful. Often times we go just to pick up something small, and ask the clerks all the questions we have on a particular subject. Even though they can't compete against Home Depot for price, they beat the large chains in knowledge, customer service, and selection.

Fry's is quite possibly the biggest computer store I have ever seen. But they don't stop there. They compete with Target, Wal-Mart, Borders, etc. They sell DVD's, Music, some books, Large home appliances, magazines, electronics, and they even have a cafe. The prices are sometimes fantastic, and they often sell stuff with good rebates. The staff is very busy, and you may take a long time waiting for help. The register lines are always fast, and they require you to show your receipt when you leave. A lot of people complain about this and the service, so if you don't need a lot of staff assistance, this is agreat place to shop.
