First of all, Salem Valley Farms ice cream is not at 89 Rattlesnake Ledge Rd. It's at 20 Darling Rd. in Salem, CT. This is the creamiest, freshest, wonderful-est ice cream you'll ever try. We've tried some other great ice creams in CT, and some come very close, but we still think Salem Valley Farms is the best.

Upcoming events include Ravi Shankar, American String Quartet, Munich Symphony, Judy Collins and the Smothers Brothers, Hansel and Gretl, Wynton Marsalis, and Willie Wonka, and more. We attended a Messiah Sing there and had a wonderful time. We look forward to more memorable evenings there.

I was impressed with The Finer Consignor consigment shop in East Lyme, Connecticut. All of their items are current or recent styles, in good condition,and displayed attractively. The prices are reasonable. I've seen DKNY, Chico's, Vera Bradley, and other such good labels. There are lots of accessories of all kinds, too. I just brought home a straw hat with floral decoration that enchanted me and wouldn't let me leave it there. It was 50% off the original consignment price (sale price $3.50), as were many other items in the shop. If they accept your items for consignment and they sell them, your commission is 50%. Call first to see if they're accepting items at that time.

In addition, they feature some beautiful jewelry crafted by an area artisan whose business is called LaDeDah, and also by one of the shop's owners. The hours are Tuesday - Friday 10-5; Thursday 10-7; Saturday 10-2; and by appointment.

I just discovered JS Toy and Hobby in Salem, Connecticut. The owner is very helpful and friendly, and they carry a good selection of toys of all kinds, including Gotz dolls, Legos and other Lego-type kits, jigsaw puzzles, Barbie dolls, radio controlled vehicles and much more. I was delighted to find them, especially since we have a 10-year-old nephew to shop for soon. Their prices seem reasonable for a small local shop. We'll be back there to buy our nephew's birthday present within the next week.

For really great, unique, and traditional toys, check out Mystical Toys in Mystic, Connecticut. Located next to the drawbridge, this is a great place to find high-quality items you won't necessarily find at all the big chain stores. Mystical Toys has lots of wonderful educational toys and collectible toys, plus a wide range of other types to choose from. When we were there last, they offered free gift wrapping. This is a fun place to feel like a kid again.

Between the Bridges Flea Market, located in Niantic, Connecticut, has a big selection of all kinds of antiques and collectibles in a wide price range. There's plenty to keep me happily browsing, and there's something for every budget. They bought a framed print from me once, also, but I don't know if they buy things on a regular basis. I've bought jigsaw puzzles and board games there. If you like flea markets, put this one on your list.

Ocean Beach Park in New London, Connecticut, is an ok amusement center, though a bit on the run-down side. My 8-year-old nephew didn't seem to mind at all, and we spent a fun time walking on the beach, playing arcade games, playing miniature golf, and watching him ride the kiddie rides. There's also a swimming pool. There are various prices for parking/admission, the mini golf, the rides, etc., so check out the website link I provided.
