Tiny World is a warehouse of baby and kid items such as strollers, beds, sofas, strollers, safety gates, toys, cribs, etc. Their staff is very knowledgeable and helpf on which products would be right for you and your family. also, if you buy a car seat from them, they will properly install it in your car. While they tend to be slighlty more pricey than Babies r us, you can't compare the staff's knowledge.
It's better to buy the right product than to be stuck with one that doesn't work for you!

I recently took my 2 year old daughter to a gymnastics class at JAG in Culver City and while I was hestitant about it, she had a great time! The space is huge and there are different groups taking a class at any given time, but there are trampolines, parallel bars of all sizes, balance beams, swings, rock climing, obstacle courses and padded floors everywhere!
The teachers are very warm and youthful, but the kids just get excited in the space. I could see that this could be a place where girls and boys could really build self-confidence and get addicted to the sport!

Last year my daughter and I started in the Infant Toddler Program at Pacific Oaks Children's School in Pasadena. The Infant-Toddler program ranges from 6 months to 2 years with the parent onsite while the child is there.
The children are encouraged to learn experientially by experimenting with water, sand, soft and hard toys, climbing, painting, etc. There is a 20 minute observation period for parents and a facilitated discussion by the head teacher of various parenting issues such as sibling rivalry, sleep habits, tantrums, etc. They follow the RIE, Resources for Infant Educarers by Magda Gerber. As a parent, you will learn to alter your adult expectations and gain confidence in your parenting skills.
The school goes up Pre-K and Kindergarten and follows a well-rounded anti-bias curriculum. Parents of lower income, same-sex households, single parents, ethnic and cultural diverse backgrounds encourages to apply. Scholarships are available for those who qualify.
The school is located under the umbrella of a college where they teach students at an undergraduate and graduate levels the application and theory of Early Childhood Education.

I had high hopes for this place, however it has hasn't lived up to my expectations. Nana's Garden is a place where parents can have someone play with their child and even do arts and crafts while the parent shops for boutique clothes and toys or gets to talk comfortable with friends over lunch or even get a full body massage or facial.
While I think the business concept is a needed one, I think the owners have yet to be able to make all of they services seamlessly work together. I recently went in there with 13 other moms for a spa day. While we had the place to ourselves (I think due to poor attendance), they were not prepared for us even though over a month's notice was given. Most of the group had to leave as, they were not prepared to stay an extra 5 hours (no exaggeration) to get the spa services they were promised.
The spa services provided by the various practioners were okay, but it was the overall management of our group which was so poorly prepared for in advance. It's not okay to have a massage therapist complete 14 massages back to back without a break!
Perhaps with some new staff personnel, this place could be a real gem, but in the meantime, don't plan any parties there for your kids or for adults!

Apparently, Mr. Colburn had a vision of starting music education from early children and develop into adulthood. I think that's why he's placed such an emphasis on providing programs for children. My daughter (2 years old) recently started taking a couple classes there exposing her to playing various small instruments, interpreting musical sounds into movement, singing songs, and playing on a grand piano with a master.
Let me be clear. This is not a mommy and me-type class where your child bangs on drums and run around. This is a fairly controlled environment where the children sit when they are told, experiment with various small instruments for short periods of time and then sit again to listen to the teacher.
Classes are very small so attention can be paid to everyone. Weekend classes are particularly competitive to get into as it's more popular.
While I can only describe the classes we took, I highly recommend the school. Price is comparable to mommy and me classes.

This is one of the best selection of children's books around Los Angeles. Recently, I went there to buy some gifts for a Korean family and wanted to bring some cultural books for the kids. I was able to find three or four books on Korean folktales and culture. They also a good selection of bilingual and foreign language books. The staff is extremely knowledgeable about what they have in store, where to find it and what would be appropriate for your target audience. From board books, to preschool guides, to elementary and beyond, this store is a fantastic resource.
They also gift wrap on-site, so you don't have to worry about that step before you head over to that birthday party.
Oh, they periodically bring in children's book authors, so you can hear the story from them and get your book signed personally.
Storytelling is available on Saturdays for kids 3-8 every week.

If there ever was a spa version of a kid's bookstore, this is it. Located in the hip area off robertson and 3rd street (near the Beverly Center), this store offers all the classics and more. They sell pristine copies of old classics like the Wizard of Oz for unbelievably high prices. If want specialty books for your children or as gifts, this is a good place to go before you head to lunch at he Newsroom Cafe.
Story time is good except it gets pretty crowded with parent and kiddies in a small lounge area. The store is also not child-proof--meaning there are breakable items at low levels for easy access. It's seems like it's more of a place for parents to buy for their kids, than for kids themselves.
They also frequently have special events which you can check out on their website at www.storyopolis.com. They also validate parking downstairs.

I went to the Pump station after I had to leave my daughter at the hospital when she was born. Recommended to me by my OB-GYN, I was able to rent an excellent, fast, electronic, get nursing gel pads and a natural nipple lotion to soothe and heal my cracked, sore nipples. I also picked up literature on how to breastfeed correctly. After that initial induction, I went there for breastfeeding support groups and special hard to find nursing and baby products.
The staff there is excellent and very knowledgeable, however it is pricey and difficult to find parking. But, the bottom line is, if you need some support as a parent, they are there to guide and provide you with lots of material. you can also look them up online at www.pumpstation.com. they are located on wilshire between 22nd and 23rd street.
