I really like the Bridge Movie Theater at the Howard Hughes Center. There's always a dozen different films playing and they have a special Director's hall with leather seats, extra wide and comfortable for an extra fee. I haven't tried that yet, but I'm sure it's nice. They also have dinner and movie packages for two for those LA dates.
My only complaint is that the film selection is fairly typical. I rarely see foreign films or smaller films showing there. It's your usual blockbuster type of films only.

The staff at Helen's Cycles are very knowledgeable folks who can help you resolve your biking problems and needs whether it's a new bike seat, gloves, sun glasses, or clothing, they have it all. You can purchase products and get your biked equiped with all your new gadgets while you wait. Biking stuff can get expensive, you look out for clearance sales and gently used products in the store.
There are several stores in LA including in Westwood, Santa Monica, Venice, and Manhattan Beach.
Oh, they also give discounts if you are doing a race for a charity.
On a customer service note, I think they were great. I returned a bike pump months after I purchased it from a different store location, without the receipt. The pump was fine, except i found my old pump and didn't feel I needed two of them. They gladly took it back and gave me a store refund, which helped me out when I purchased a new helmet.

Many Flap Happy hats look like safari hats with the added protection to cover little one's ears and neck, plus it has an elastic, so it doesn't' slip off. Flap Happy is also know for its prints. They have very colorful designs and playful patterns for kids. Some of their clothes are renamed and sold in stores like Talbots for kids. Their discount store in Santa Monica has an assortment of leftovers, which didn't make it to the boutiques. And their prices are great! You may have to dig through a box of mixed stuff, but you can get some good play clothes for your kids. Sometimes, the clothes can be sized wrong since these are the rejects, but just don't read the tag and you'll be fine.

Real Belgian waffles are hard to find, but Euro Station Waffles makes pretty good waffles. It's a small fast food place with coffee and sweets available....made to order, so you know you get something fresh. Ambience stinks. I don't even recall them playing music in the background. Also the location is off to the side of the mall, so it's easy to miss if you're entering from the other side of the mall. So, if you're looking for a little sugary sweet something before your movie, stop by and pick up a Belgian waffle.

After leaving NYC, I haven't been able to find a Thai restaurant which compares to the local Thai restaurant up the block from where I lived in Brooklyn. Wild Thai has come close and it's convenience in the Howard Hughes center makes it more appealing. Get the Tom Ka Gai soup (coconut with chicken), the pad thai noodles, red curry and mango dessert with a Thai iced coffee and you're set for an excellent meal. Reasonably priced and never a wait-in-line kinda place. My daughter 92 years old) also really likes it there as the decorations are warm and intriguing.

Natalee has recently remodeled and now is housed in a very sheek building off Venice Blvd. I had found their food just to be okay, but if you're craving Thai food, this is a decent pick. They have your usual Thai standards such as pad thai, curry, rice dishes, etc. I believe they also opened another location, however i'm not sure exactly where that is. The ambience is pretty nice, hustling and bustling, but the building is new and looks hip. Space was a litle tight, but not bad. i think they also serve nice alcoholic beverages.

Woody's BBQ is a small dive where you can wait for a long time after church on a Sunday to place an order. Usually, you can see the smike from the BBQ about a block away and smell the food before you even park your car.
Woody's is my favorite BBQ place. We recently catered a birthday party and picked up ribs, links and chicken from Woody's. needless to say, it was all gone before I could snag a piece for myself!

Often filmed in movies, Pann's restaurant is frequently seen on Hollywood films. The most recent I saw was Bewitched. Aside from that, the restaurant offers your typical american fare. We went there at 7am on a saturday morning and we were not alone! apparently, LAX police also like to frequent there for their 2 hour lunch breaks.
Anyway, I had pancakes, eggs and sausage with OJ for $8-9 bucks. I like the typical booth benches and bar seating. It's a classic.
So, if you're picking someone up from the airport early one morning, stop at Pann's for a meal.

If you'd like to try something different that your usual American fare, try Ethiopian food. You eat scooping up lentils, cabbage, tomatoes, meat with injera bread. injera bread is a spongy bread which soaks up sauces and flavors while filling your belly. Rosalind's is a bigger restaurant in Little Ethiopia on Fairfax between Olympic and Pico.
While I can't say i enjoy the aroma of incense, the restaurant is comfortable and nicely decorated.

Ramenya is a small ramen noodle house in west LA. While there always seems to be a line outside, the food is worth it. They have a variety of udon and soba noodle soups in very large bowls. Prices are very reasonable and the food always comes quickly. I am not sure of they make their noodles, but they are still very good.
If you don't want soup, they also serve rice dishes, potstickers and other usual japanese foods. This is a great little restaurant not far from Sawtelle.
