Recently, our garage door opener died and I didn't know what to do. I was recommended this guy, Bill Buchanan. While I was a little weary having a stranger come over to my house, he was very nice. I was also concerned that he'd try to rip me off, but i think I paid a fair price for his assessment, installment and purchase of a new garage door opener that works. basically, he's a nice guy doing good work. It turned out to be a painless solution to a painful problem. All our time wasted on trying to revive the old garage door opener was such a waste of time!

They claim to have the flamed chicken in LA. I thought the food was good, but it wasn't out of this world. Not far from the museums, it could be a decent choice for some cheap fare quick to eat. Better than Mcdonalds for sure! It's located in a little strip mall just south of Wilshire on La Brea.

After I complete a triathlon for the first time, I wanted to treat myself for a massage without spending $100. Someone recommended the Massage Garage. At first I was skeptical, but once I got there, I see that this is just another business which happens to specialize in massages. The receptionist was warm. There was free water and tea in the waiting room. The massage rooms were comfortable and relaxing with quiet music. i didn't have to wait long and it was easy to schedule and appointment. The massage wasn't the best I've had, but it did the trick.

If you're parking at LAX more than a week and you want your car there when you land, try parking lot B. The the further parking lot from the airport, but it's the cheapest, too. They just raised the price to $8 per day. The shuttle circles the parking lot, so don't worry if you can get a spot near the main station stop. Also, you can pay by credit card in case you spent all your cash on vacation. It's also a great place to watch the planes land...and if you're really hungry, you can stop over to the Proud Bird next door.

While I never really seem to remember what I see at museums, I do remember when a museum has special events on campus. A couple of events that I have really enjoyed with my toddler daughter is jazz on the courtyard, movie night on the lawn, and painting in the children's wing. The children's section had numerous stations set-up where you can touch sand with moving images, see yourself on screen, draw and paint on small easel boards. But best of all, LACMA has a program where children under 18 get in free with an accompanying adult. So, we will have more than a decade to enjoy this museum over and over again!

Philippe's is an original LA restaurant with sawdust shavings on the floor, a train museum downstairs, and lemonade that stills sells at $.19 (I think). They make pork, steak, lamb and turkey sandwiches, covered with a gravy from the meat. you add their special mustard sauce with some coleslaw and you're set. The also serve different pies and hard boilded pickled eggs (a Polish tradition). You can read about tis history and take a stroll in Chinatown or Olivera Street afterwards as you'll need some time to digest all that food you ate. It's also a couple blocks form the Union Street train station, so if you're waiting for someone to pick you up, you may want to grab something to eat in the meantime.

This location is the original El Cholo location and has lots of flavor to it. While the food is good, I think it's the ambience that is fun. If you order guacamole they make it for you right at your table. The staff is accustomed to familes with kids, so you don't have to feel bad if they make a mess at the table. While you can probably find cheaper Mexican food at a local taco stand around the corner, el Cholo is a nice big family restaurant and is clean.

I stumbled upon this place one night while working late. Cuidad, meaning, "city" in Spanish has great food in a casual environment. From empanadas to the pork chops, I thought the food and coffee was delicious. The staff were hip and cool and I felt this place could be in Barcelona. Prices were a little high, but there aren't a lot of nice places downtown either. If you're downtown going to a performance at the music center, then this might be a nice place to have dinner either before or after.

Noodle Planet has an assortment of noodles and added ingredients. This is kinda a fast-food noodle house, but it's one of the only in Westwood, so if you're looking for something to walk to from UCLA, it's an okay pick. Parking in Westwood is always a hassle, but if you're there to check out some flicks and need some quick food, then this might be a good choice. It's better than Burger King!

If you're looking for classes for toddlers, you should check out Creative Kids in West LA. They offer a ton of different classes with play in painting, dance, music, etc. Classes are affordable. You can also throw a birthday party there, too if you're looking for an indoor, children-friendly space without worries. The staff is also very friendly. They are open to starting new classes if there's an interest from enough parents. I also like the location as I can grab something good to eat within walking distance.
