I have been meaning to recommend P and C autobody to the group for some time now. They do body work and mechanical service. This is the first automechanic/body shop that I have ever felt comfortable in. The men that work there are very pleasant and nice to work with. The first time I went in for a service and asked for a tune up while I was there. They told me that I didn’t yet need a tune up and told me when to come back! I
appreciated that.
I had a minor bumper dent that I wanted repaired before selling a car. They told me the best way to do it so that it would be perfect and quoted me a
price, but they also offered to try to do it for less money and see how it looked. One was $700 and one was $100. Guess which option I took? It
came out perfect and I didn’t have to do the more expensive work.
They are on Centinella in West LA just North of Pico, across from the entrance to the 10 west.

It's goes to show that money does buy nice facilities in your neighborhood. The Cheviot Hills park off Motor and Pico has a great facility with an auditorium, BBQ pits, baseball field, children's playa area, a community room and a little gym.
They also have onsite a kitchen, a stage, a jogging path and an archery range. There always seems to be a lot of programs going on there like baseball, basketball, football, archery, karate, soccer, volleyball, etc. I've also seen that they summer programs for the kids.
For people who arent interested in that, they have the "softer" programs such as art, ballet, music, parent and me classes, chess, parent-night outs, drama, dance, aerobics, yoga, etc.
I wish I lived closer. You have to call the office to get a current schedule as things often change.

Fundamentals of Music and Movement was started by a couple parents looking for better music programs for their kids. They offer various music and play classes for infants, toddlers and older kids. It's at the corner of Barrington and National in a strip mall. I've heard the owners are very nice and people get their first class free to make sure this is what they want. They also host birthday parties, too. I personally have not taken classes here with my children due to an already packed schedule, however I know a lot of others who love it there and have signed up so class packages. I think the cost averages to be about $15 per class.

The Museum of Contemporary Art downtown is adjacent to the Colburn School of Performing Arts. While I was on jury duty, I spent my lunch hour at the MOCA. The space is small, but I enjoyed the art. I went on a day where the entrance fee is waived. I'm not a big contemporary art fan, so I'm not sure if I would have felt the entrance fee was worth it. My lunch hour seem like almost enough time to see the space and all its contents. There is also a nice cafe/restaurant outside in the courtyard. I think a visit here might be nice if coupled with a visit to the Disney Music Hall or the Music Center down the street. Parking is also a hassle, so be prepared to pay and walk.

I went to the Skirball Center for an alumni event sponsored by my school. While getting there was a hassle for the traffic on a Friday night on the 405, I found the place to be peaceful and interesting. I know they frequently have concerts and various traveling exhibits, such as the one on Einstein recently. They also have kids programs such as storytelling and musical performances as well. Since it's so close to the Getty museum, it might be worth a stop over to see what it has to offer as well. The building was built specifically for this museum, so I imagine they have built in a lot of nice features.

The California Science Museum is a nice place to take your kids as they get older. The have hands-on learning as well as periodic exhibitions. You can also become a member and make regular vists to save on entrance fees. The last time I was there I saw "Body Worlds", where over 200 real bodies were on display using a new scientific method od preserving bodies without the usual stinky smells. I saw sectionals of bodies, organs, muscles, blood vessels, fetus, old and young people, etc. This description just doesn't give it justice as it is overwhelming to see such precision upclose. This particular exhibition brought tons of crowds, but I thought the museum did a good job of monitoring how many people can go in at any given time. They also have a decent food court onsite. Parking costs $6-8.

When I was pregnant, I went around town looking for the best pre-natal yoga class which fit into my busy work schedule. I did find a class at Center for Yoga and was able to buy a cute onesie outside for my child-to-be at their sidewalk sale. It's a busy place on a Saturday, so don't feel intimidated or lost, just ask questions. Shoes are left downstairs and classes are upstairs or up another flight of stairs. My class was on the third floor which wasn't all that exciting given I was really big and pregnant. However, the class was pretty nice and there were tools on the wall to help with various stretches and poses. I could see how on a weekday, it might be a little more relaxing, but that wasn't an option for me at the time. I'm not sure if they have parking as I parked on the street in a metered parking spot.

My husband works at UCLA, so he sometimes takes his stuff here. The computer system is efficient so you are aware of how much you pay in advance. They are pretty reliable and the turn around time is usually 1-2 days. They also have a drive-thru window which makes it convenient for folks who may park to far to want to carry their stuff. on the way to work, at lunch or after work, it's fairly convenient. I will say that UCLA folks get a small discount, but there are still places likely to be cheaper with the same quality care.

Forget Subway and Quiznos, you gotta try Bay Cities in Santa Monica! The are often crowded at peak times, but it you have some time, it worth checking out. Walk through the aisles of a great selection of gourmet foods and drinks. I heard they bake all day long, so your breads and baked goods will be fresh! It's not cheap, so don't expect fast-food prices. If you really must grab and go, they prepare popular sandwiches during rush hour at the front counter, so you can literally just grab, pay and go!
Oh, if you like olives, they have a great selection of those, too. It's a yummy, yummy place!

As I was strolling down the street one day, I decided to satisfy a curiosity of mine for a long time. I stepped into the F&S Fabric store. There are three different stores specializing in different aspects of fabric and accessories. I had entered another world. As someone who can't sew, this was overwhelming, but inspiring as well. I could see if you were an seamstress or interior designer how this would be a lot of fun! Needless to say, I didn't buy anything, so I'm not sure if the prices are outrageous or not, but it is a place where making a new bedroomset, curtains, pillows, upholstery, etc. could be customized all to meet your needs and whims.
