My best friend, Louie, passed away yesterday. He had been attacked suffering multiple lacerations, a punctured lung, a broken rib, multiple bruises, multiple deep wounds, major blood loss and brain damage from being severely shaken. He was a trooper in spite of dying less than 24 hours after I found him. My heart is broken and my anger is deep. My anger begins with his attacker, whom I will probably never find. My anger also goes to first hospital I took him to. He was never examined as I was only told to fill out the paperwork. I filled out the paperwork and waited. When I confronted the guy behind the desk, I was told he could not tell me how long I would wait - there were other patients, one who had been hit by a car. I understand that Louie was not the only patient, but I also know that his injuries were very severe. The lack of compassion by these hospital employees sickened me. I decided to find Louie proper care and was informed as I was walking out of the door that I would not find anywhere else in the Baton Rouge area open to care for Louie since Baton Rouge Pet Emergency Hospital is the only after hours animal emergency care clinic. Yes, Louie was my dog - I know to some that means nothing but to me he meant the world. I was able to find someone to care for Louie, Dr. Liz Patterson, in St. Francisville. Louie was treated immediately by Dr. Liz who gave both Louie and I so much compassion. I guess all things happen for a reason and if we would have stayed at Baton Rouge Pet Emergency Hospital Louie would have never received the compassion which he received from Dr. Liz, he probably would have died in the waiting at Baton Rouge Pet Emergency Hospital. Louie was a very loving pet, he never met anyone who didn't immediately fall in love with him. I can only hope that my message saves other pets from the lack of humanity that Baton Rouge Pet Emergency Hospital seems to thrive on.

Located in the heart of the French Quarter, Antoines is easily accessible to hotels in the Quarter. Established in 1840, this restaurant holds a lot of history. With 15 separate dining rooms, Antoines is great for any occassion and will accomodate all of your needs. Reservations are strongly recommended and a dinner jacket is required. The food is out of the ordinary. The back of the menu provides the history of the restaurant, Antoine came to New Orleans from France where he was an apprentice to Chefs at the early age of 8. He brought many sauces to New Orleans and was the original inventor of Oysters Rockefeller. My husband and I visited Antoines for the Father's Day Sunday Jazz Brunch. We had Iced Tea, Water, Escargots a la Bourguignonne (snails) , Crevettes remoulade (Shrimp remoulade), Crabes mous grillés (crab Cakes), veal, peach melba and Cheesecake. We were served hot bread complimentary and our waiter was sure to keep us with fresh hot bread throughout the meal. The service was extraordinary and the food was very good with an unusual twist. The food was different - excellent but with a different twist. Our meal was $91.00 but it was well worth it. The restaurant was clean and the service was exceptional. This is full of history and the walls are lined with photographs and memorabalia from the famous people who have visited, i.e., Helen Keller, Elizabeth Taylor, Walt Disney, etc.

Two blocks from Bourbon Street, New Orlean's oldest hotel is full of elegance and style. Hotel Monteleone opeened in 1886 and holds plenty of history. A place for many authors to stay while their books are written along with a haunted history, this hotel is truly full of magic. Home to the carousel bar, a bar that looks like a carousel and actually spins. The rooms are small but offer lots of elegance, including a nice plush spa robe for you to enjoy during your stay. My husband and I stayed in a King Superior room for $129.00 per night. Being so close to Bourbon Street, we were able to hear a lot of the commotion throughout the night. We were offered comfort in the nice bed. The hotel offered room service, though we did not order. Movies and games were offered for an additional charge. Valet parking is available at the hotel.

My daughter and I stayed at this hotel so we would not have to drive home after a concert at the Rivercenter. The room was very clean and very comfortable. Check in was a bit of a hassle, I believe only one valet employee was at work and there was a long line. Deciding to park myself, parking was found easily behind the hotel. I could see the parking lot from my room.
The hotel offers a swimming pool which is small but it is heated. A very nice workout center with state of the art equipment.
Room service is offered but ends at 10 pm on weeknights, 11 pm on weekends - I don't understand why a hotel that is next door to a 24 hour casino would not have 24 hour casino. We did get room service for breakfast and was pleased. Service was quick, the food was great but it was pricey - $40 for french toast, a bagel, a fruit plate and 2 iced teas. In case you want to eat out of the room, there are a variety of restaurants within the atrium including a buffet.
The bed was very comfortable and there was not a lot of noise that kept me from sleeping.
Movies were offered at an additional price but basic cable is available for free.
The one night was $89.00. We were pleased to have the convenience, safety and comfort this hotel gave us for the one night.

My husband and I stayed at the Horizon Casino resort one weekend when the other casinos in Vicksburg were all booked up. The staff was very friendly and the location was in the middle of Vicksburg. We were a bit suprised at the room. It was large and it was clean but there were no in room movies, no room service and no great view. Remind you the room was very clean and well kept.
The casino was a bit homely, It just seemed old. Seats were torn and the carpet was worn. It was warm in the casino - that is a plus since I usually am freezing cold. I played slots - there are plenty and my husband played poker (they offered free hotdogs and other snacks to the poker players). I was not racking up on the points very easy and when I went to collect my prize at 1:10 a.m. to collect my prize I was advised that the rewards are not offered Friday through Sunday and it is technically Friday. I was truly disappointed and frustrated.
Checkout was convenient but for $109 per night, I feel that we should have received more.

Quality Inn Creekside is located in the middle of Gatlinburg - making it easy to walk to the attractions of Gatlinburg with ease. With a swimming pool, hot tub, jacuzzi suites, creekside rooms, in room refrigerators, microwaves, and free breakfast served each morning this hotel offers something for everyone's needs. Located between Howards restaurant and Calhoun's village, lunch and dinner is never too far away.
My husband and I stayed in a jacuzzi/fireplace suite for one week for a little over $100. The room met all of our needs. We were close to the creek and the sound of the creek blocked out the noise from the swimmers in the pool so I was able to sit on the balcony and relax while reading my book. We were really suprised at how clean the maid kept our room - it always smelled fresh. Check in was very convenient and we never had any problems. We will definitely stay here again.

My family has been season ticket holders for the last few years at Blue Bayou. Were many parents drop their children off, I firmly believe it is my job to raise my child so I always attend with her.
There are plenty of water rides and amusement rides - but not too many for you to get to in one day. The weekdays are a lot slower but weekends offer the free concert with admission. These concerts have brought in the likes of Jesse McCartney, Ryan Cabrerra, Aaron Carter, Raven Symone, Diana Digarmo, Bowling for Soup, etc. Admission to the concert is free and you are welcome to bring your own chair but the park also sells preferred seating which ranges from $10 - $50 (depending on the artist) where you can sit close to the stage in a chair provided by the park.
Dining is limited at the park and I stronly recommend walking to the waffle house or Sonic next door to the park to get a better and less expensive meal.
Season passes are $59.95 and the park is open throughout summer. Coupons are provided with the season passes.
I have noticed many things wrong with this park such as minor children smoking, people slipping and falling while lifeguards look but do nothing about the slippery areas, people in pools kicking others while lifeguards threaten continuously but do not pull the horseplayers out of the pool. The most horrific thing I noticed was the last concert I attended with my daughter and her friend. My attached letter to the editor explains things
I am a mother. I am also a business owner. First and foremost, comes my job as a mother. In my business, I have never been afraid “to get my hands dirty.” I have every job that I expect of my employees and some jobs that I would never ask my employees to do.
I took my daughter and her friend to the Jesse McCartney concert at Blue Bayou/Dixie Landin On August 5, 2006. I’ve never been one to drop my daughter off and leave her because the underage smoking, underage public displays of affection and many other things that occur at the park do concern me. After spending a couple of hours sitting in the section at the bottom of the racing slides and watching many people slip in that area and employees doing nothing, I was reminded of the incident this summer where a child was thrown off the rainbow ride in the amusement park section. I wondered if the employees were as eager to turn a cheek to that situation as they were this. I watched, along with the lifeguards employed by Blue Bayou as men, women, children, boys and girls slip on the concrete and only one - yes I said ONE - was asked if he was okay and I believe that was only because he took a while to get up. The mats were never moved or anything.
When the gates were opened for the concert, it was obvious that this had not been planned very well. I purchased the preferred seating in advance but no one was sure where to go. I watched people push to get in the line, people climb over and under the barricades as the employees (the older employees) were on the verge of panic. I listened as more than one employee discussed how the crowd was slightly out of control and there would be no way to control the crowd. I listened in disbelief how the employees discussed how they did not know what to do with the crowd and how they needed more help. After I got my girls seated, and this took some time, I looked for all exits and to my surprise could only find one exit - a gate which was the only entrance. Every other exit had been barricaded and locked (with a chain and lock). I asked three employees where the exits were and was pointed to only one.
I decided to take my concern to guest relations where I met Kathy Haynes, the confessed owner of the Blue Bayou/Dixie Landin. I tried voicing my concerns to her as a mother and a business owner. I had real concern since there were well over 500 people ( that is the number of preferred seating and they were all full) with only one exit. She advised me that they follow fire marshall rules. I asked if I could use her phone to call the fire marshall and she called her husband. She never allowed me to call the fire marshall but did advise me that she had never personally seen the concert area during concerts. She rarely goes out of the park, she has yet to see the new ride that they have received. And that if I did not feel safe I could leave.
Her attitude surprises me as a mother and a business owner. How can she know how they follow fire marshall guidelines when she doesn’t even see the concert section during a concert? I asked her to walk with me so I could show her first hand how her employees were near panic stage and all she could do was tell me to leave. I was not only concerned for the safety of my daughter but as a human with compassion, I did have concern for every one in that gated section (which was completely full). So while Mrs. Haynes sat in her office, as she does every day, I guess counting her profits, I stood up for daughters safety. Still, as a mother and business owner I cannot understand how she can turn a blind eye and ignore such serious issues in her business.

A member of my weight loss club bought Hummus from LaShish for us to try two weeks ago - I have been to visit LaShish 10 times since. The hummus is so gooood. Located in the heart of Denham, next to DeAngelos and Spectrum Fitness, LaShish is very easy to find. You will be suprised when you step into LaShish, the walls are painted like bricks with camels and desert scenes. The service is very fast and friendly.
I have also tried the tilapia ( I really didn't care for it), Spinach pies - YUM, Baklava - YUM, Falefel - YUM and the eggplant -YUM YUM. Prices are very reasonable. They offer hamburgers for those who do not like the lebanese food.
The restaurant is very clean and remember the service is friendly - I do not think you will be disappointed.
