Big comfy seats, wine during a movie, no heads clouding your vision - Watching a movie at Big Picture is like being pampered. Plus, the daytime shows are cheaper than at the big, crammed, sticky floor theaters... And they play interesting, art house movies. The only down side is the reservation process is a little anxiety producing - you leave a message and just have to trust that they got it and that there will be space. But so far I've had no problems.

If you're ever in need of a nutritionist, Kathleen & Sandi should be on your list of people to interview. They have both the clinical knowledge to provide sound nutritional information and advice, as well as the interpersonal and counseling skills needed to help one figure out how to best incorporate changes into one's life. They are both passionate about their work and seem truly invested in their clients' health and well-being. I especially appreciated Kathleen's understanding of how to work with people with histories of eating disorders.

I have practically convinced myself that eating a donut from Mighty O is good for me. Vegan, organic, no hydrogenated oils... AND they taste like donuts! Natural Food stores like PCC carry a few of their offerings, but to really become a fan, you have to go to their bakery. They have interesting flavors like lemon poppy donuts, French toast donuts, and the good old stand-bys like Glazed and chocolate frosted. It has become a bad habit to stop by after a run at Greenlake. They also sell tiny little donuts - cheap, you can try a bunch of different ones, or you can just buy one little one and get that lovely donut taste/experience w/o the guilt one might get from eating an entire one (or several).

I've been going to Jamjuree since I first moved here nearly 10 years ago. They have hands down the best Phad Thai I've had in Seattle, although that's not to diminish any of their other dishes - every single one I've tried has been fantastic. Their lunch specials are great - and their service staff is really welcoming and efficient. Finally, I appreciate that they offer brown rice and they have always been glad to make changes to accomodate my dietary needs.

Elliot Bay Book Co is so warm - the wood floors, the old building, the nooks and crannies, being in the middle of Pioneer Square, not to mention the interesting books. It's easy to get lost in there for hours, just browsing, wondering about the people who walked the same floors decades ago. The staff is great - knowledgeable, kind - and happy to give you all the space you want to just hang out and explore.

Third Place Books at Lake Forest Park is like walking into a community living room. The stacks of integrated new and used books are vast and inviting, selection is great, the chairs are super comfy, it's quiet in places and close to a hub of activity in others, the staff is friendly, and it feels like a place one can go at any time, stay for any length, and feel at home. I love that you can wander between Honey Bear Bakery, the life-size community chess board, and the book store as if it's one big entity, all while listening to live music and watching people dance.
