I just had the best experience with Tom, the mechanic, at Moss Bay Shell Repair. He was thorough, really seemed to know what he was doing (he's got over 25 yrs experience as a mechanic), was so easygoing and pleasant to interact with, he pointed out what needed to be fixed and what could wait - as well as what seemed to be working just right, the price for the oil change was way less than I'd been paying, and he seemed genuinely enthusiastic about working on my car and having a new customer. He seems to love what he does. As a newer business they could use all the promotion they can get, and I am glad to do it. I feel like I've finally found a mechanic I can trust who is also really close to where I live! It's just a plus that he seems like a really nice guy.

St Edward's is fantastic. From the trails that deceive you into thinking you're out on a mountain, to the amazing and huge playground, to the serenity of the old seminary and the grounds and the grotto... this park is just fantastic. On the weekends you're greeted by the sounds of kids playing baseball, families riding their bikes on the trails, people walking their dogs, and adults playing basketball in the old gym. And when you want to mix it up a bit, just walk on the trails over to Bastyr and walk on their reflexology footpath, look at the plants in their herb garden, soak up the good energy.

It's hard to know where to begin. Scuzzy experience w/buying the car. But what really irked me is the incessant and biased way they do their "customer service" surveys. While I was filling out the paperwork to buy the car, the salesman told me that if I didn't give him "excellent" ratings on all of the categories in the survey I'd be getting in the mail (which I was informed about oh, 50 times, and was stamped on all of the paperwork and emphasized in plaques on the wall) that he wouldn't get paid - that he's just commission based and needed me to give him a good rating. Hmm. No pressure, no bias. Which pissed me off because he was just about the slimiest guy I'd ever met and I didn't trust him at all and left feeling poorly about my experience there anyway.
Then there were phone calls - asking the same questions as were on the paper survey. And the calls came after EVERY little interaction I had w/them - be it to get my license plates put on, getting my oil changed, anything - there were phone calls to me at work - always with the same, totally biased questions - "were you COMPLETELY SATISFIED with...".
And they'd always call me at work - regardless of my request that they stop using that number.
This last time when I took my car in for an oil change, they took 45 minutes to pull my car around when I came to pick it up. The service staff just ignored me standing there - said they were bringing it around when I'd check - and finally a guy brings is up and says my battery doesn't work, the car had died, and I need to replace it. It was fine when I brought it - so I protested, and then overheard another service person telling my representative that they'd left my lights on and the battery died, so they had to charge it before bringing it around. Why tell me I have to replace my battery when you made it die??? No apologies.
And of course, this time I did not get a call to complete a survey.
They don't want your feedback - they don't want to have information to improve their services - they want your glowing survey to get those lovely plaques that say they are exceptional in service.
And I will never buy another car from them, and I will never return for their service department.

I love going to the locks. I could spend hours watching the fish jump up the fish ladder, the boats go through the locks, and walking around the beautifully maintained lawns. It's not just the kind of place you go when you have visitors in town and are taking them to tourist spots - it's a place to hang out, take a picnic, get out of the busy pace of life and just watch as the boats and fish pass through.

I've given Wildfire Ranch BBQ a number of chances over the years - and each time I leave disappointed. The staff is cold and disinterested - often they won't even speak to you. The sauce tastes rather acidic - like there's too much vinegar - and a little fruity at the same time. For those of us who grew up eating BBQ in the south, this doesn't hit the spot.

Gordito's has been consistently great - the food is generous, cheap, tasty - the salsa is great - the music is loud & invigorating. The owners remember you and it's fun to watch the kids grow in the photos hanging above the front counter (the oldest one literally grew up before my eyes). It's the kind of place you can go with a big group of friends, or by yourself, and feel just as comfortable either way. In the summer there's a little patio outside as well. The line can look daunting when it winds out the door and around the corner, but it moves quickly and the food arrives soon after you order. It's a great way to feel part of a community, even if you don't know the people sitting next to you.

Scarecrow is the one place you can go to rent a blockbuster and some really obscure documentary from 1974. The staff is helpful and it's easy to find what you're looking for. I find it fun to just go wander around and see what's there, see who is looking at what movies, and then leave with way more movies than I can actually watch.

There are only 4 or 5 home meets, but each is packed with amazing gymnastics and usually at least a few former elite and olympic athletes. The tickets are really cheap, and it's great to see these women having fun after all those years of pressure cooker elite level training and competition. And little girls in the audience get to see women at healthy weights perform a sport they love and be just as amazing as ever.

If you want to see a group of professional basketball players who clearly have such passion for the game, aren't driven by money, support the community, serve as genuinely pure role models for thousands of little girls, and provide a community gathering place for women... the Seattle Storm is for you. They are fundamentally sound, fun to watch, affordable, and it's easy to get passionate about them.
