Perfect color, attention to detail, worth the trip to Mercer Island. Works with all different hair types, this man is an expert at soft, beautiful cuts and color and has been featured in a number of newspaper articles. I've been going to him for 4+ years and he's always on top of his game ...

Still holding on after all the years and under new owners this theater brings in an eclectic selection of indie and late nights. A community feel and run mostly by volunteers, everyone that works and goes is passionate about it staying alive. It's unfortunate that it's not in a more supportive neighborhood, with classic theaters not being a main goal or drunk frat boys.

The employees here all hate their job and complain of bad management, the selection is tired, the deli hosts the same items every day. It could be said that these things are a result of lost money to Trader Joe's, unfortunately, it will just keep them losing money to Trader Joe's. Occasionally, they have a deli hit like their tempeh-potato salad or their vegan cream of broccoli soup (perfect!!).

Avoid the weekends but during the week sit up at the bar and have the bartenders remember your name and drink (save for one shorter woman who is everything but amiable). Drinks are cheap and made with care, food is fresh and plump, surprisingly so for bar fare. The atmosphere is womderful - moody and red, with the great wood bar standing high covering the entire back wall of the from foot to ceiling. When sitting at the bar watch out for the mirrors, as they'll remind you how much you've had to drink.

Everyone in the cafe has laptops on using free wireless service, yet it's still somehow a pick-up place for hipsters, or at least a place to feel stared at as you wait for your coffee. The art is above most coffee house art and the atmosphere is pleasant enough, better than any other house in the area. The lunch fare is not so great, usually looked anemic and/or day old. The pastries are plump and satisfactory.

The best hamburger in town !! And so many options !! The pizza burger !! A long, long list of burgers and milkshakes from this mom n' pop burger stand just outside of the Ballard locks. Picnic benches outside, perfect place to eat with kids or adults that know how to live. Friendly, fast, and more atmosphere despite it's take-out-only than any other restaurant. Don't let this business die !!

Located on 12th Ave just north of Pine this great neighborhood shop has the same friendly faces (including a shop dog) every visit. reasonably priced and consistent. They even have the great big birthday book to look through while you wait, though there is never much of a wait ... They are prompt with commercial and home owners alike, very old-timey feel.

Shalom Bayit is a wonderful program run by the National Council of Jewish Women. They accept donations of furniture and have a warehouse open to survivors of domestic violence. They have scheduled delivery dates, but if you are able to pay a minimal fee for pick up they can work with your schedule.
