.... because if you do, you will go home a poorer person. If you're into kitchen supplies (and what cook isn't, to some degree) then you will find at least a dozen things in here that make you think, "now *that* is something I could really use/upgrade to". Now, there's nothing wrong with that, because it's usually true. The problem comes in with the fact that everything in Sur La Table is high quality, which, with kitchen supplies, usually means high price.
That's not always true - there are, for instance, some very handy nylon pan scrappers that are less than a buck, and one of the best peelers known to man can be aquired here for $5.... but if you want to pay rent, stay away from most everything else. It just might be too tempting.

Once upon a time I got a gift certificate for Grüv. Eclectic list of recently released CDs I desired in hand, I went into this trendy, locally-owned music store hoping to walk out with a bunch of great music. Well, Grüv has a wide variety of stuff.... but alas, none of it was what I was looking for. Am I that unique? I never thought so.
Oh, also I was slightly annoyed at their policy with gift certificates. I had a few bucks left on my certificate after finding some stuff I wanted after all (but that wasn't on my hot list) and yet they couldn't give me change - so if I ever go back (doubtful) then I'll have $2 or so credit.

Although not as large, cheap, or helpfully staffed as the Display and Costume Supply store in Northgate, Champion Party Supply is close, and if you're based in downtown, doesn't require a drive. Also, Champion's tends to deal more in the pop-culture and ready made costume. If that's your thing, then it's hard to go wrong with a trip here.

You like quality outdoor clothing? You like incredibly soft blankets? You like the Eddie Bauer look but don't want to look like somebody that wants to wear Eddie Bauer? You like expensive prices?...
You like quality outdoor clothing? You like incredibly soft blankets? You like the Eddie Bauer look but don't want to look like somebody that wants to wear Eddie Bauer? You like expensive prices? Then Patagonia is the place for you. One of the many old school outdoor clothing stores based in Seattle, Patagonia, like the others, has become more trendy over the years. Unlike the other brands, though, Patagonia has kept it's quality high.

Before I proposed to my fiancé, we had had a few discussions about what kind of ring she would like. Basically, it came down to "custom" and "colorful". Rolph from Artas Usuwil does business in both the Pike Place Market and on Orcas Island, and he helped me design and create an absolutely georgeous ring. At least, I thought so, and it was pleasantly confirmed by both my fiancé and everybody she's shown it too! Oh, and the final price was quite reasonable.

Ok, let's get this out of the way first - Elliot Bay Books is not going to be your cheapest bookstore. Sorry, that's a fact.
But that's the only thing not going for it. Filling up a large corner lot in an old Pioneer Square brick building, the place is a joy to walk through. Brick arches, books stacked on high shelves, creaky wooden floors, bustling customers, amazingly broad selection, locally owned, regular book readings.... it's a great store.

Say you're looking to get internet service in Seattle. Say you don't want to spend so much money. Say you don't want to deal with the crap that the cable and telco's give you. You're pretty much down to 3 options, and they are Speakeasy, Drizzle, and Blarg, in decending price. Speakeasy gives you the best service, and Drizzle adds a nice community with their reliable service. Blarg strips it down to just the reliable service. If that's all you want, Blarg is all you need.

As with any university, the University of Washington has areas in which it excels and others where, well, it could do better. But if you happen to want to attend an area it is well known in (medicine and computer science, to name a few), then this school is a fine choice. Especially if you're a washington native - the value for your money is hard to beat.
Some people complain that the UW is too big of a school and hence it will be hard to make friends, but this is never something I understood. At some point, you'll always be in smaller classrooms, and once you enter a department, you start to take the same classes with the same people.

Walking through vetco is a bit like walking through the set construction trailer for a frankenstein movie. It's filled with slightly industrial-looking, mostly unidentifiable junk. Some of it has a computer-era edge, but most of it is more mechanical.... blowers and tanks outnumber LCDs and power supplies. If you're a backyard inventor, this is probably your dream store. If not, you will probably wonder why anybody would shop here.

If you're in the market for DSL and value your time, the only company you should bother to talk to is Seattle-based Speakeasy Networks. If you shop around, you'll quickly find out that they are (by far) the most expensive option - but oh boy are they worth it. Some of the reasons:
- You don't have to deal with Qwest. At all.
- You pay for x amount of bandwidth and they'll let you use it all, without threatening you about it.
- By far the best support in the industry... their reps can work without a 20-item checklist.
I've been with them 7 years running now, and have no intention of going elsewhere.
