The PCC isn’t a co-op like some other co-ops that I have been a part of on the East Coast. You don’t get any money back at the end of the year and you don’t show your card every time you buy something. Instead, being a member gets you the monthly newsletter, which is actually quite informative and full of interesting articles and recipes. It also gets you discounts at their cooking classes. Finally, on the 15th and 16th of each month you get 5% off your purchases, and once a month you can use a 10% off coupon that is sent to you monthly. As a vegetarian, I really appreciate the high quality organic fruits and vegetables. It definitely makes a difference. The Fremont store also has as great selection of cheeses, and the deli has some nice selections. There is even a toiletries section, and a large variety of vitamins and supplements. Plus, the PCC in Fremont has a large selection of wine. The only downside to the PCC is that it is pretty expensive, as organic food is. The extra cash you spend, however, is going to support the organic movement as well as local farmers in the Puget Sound. If you can afford it, I think it is more than worth it.

The Buckaroo is a tough little bar (as tough as a bar can be in Wallingford). It has cheap beer and pool, and it’s not a college bar. There’s always a slew of motorcycles parked out front and people tend to bring their dogs in for a drink. It’s a nice break from the typically trendy Fremont scene. I’m not sure if they take credit cards (in fact, I’m pretty sure they don’t) and don’t bother trying to use the ATM there – it’s weird. Basically, bring cash.

The Thaiger Room is some of the best Thai in Seattle. I eat vegetarian usually and they have the best tofu I have had at any Thai place around here. The dishes are very tasty and they have a good sized menu with yummy appetizers too. It’s very crowded during lunch time since it’s in the U-district, and the kitchen is open so it can get pretty hot and spicy in there, but I definitely recommend it.

This is probably my favorite bar in Seattle. The people and atmosphere is perfectly Seattle and perfectly Capitol Hill. The bar is cheap enough and has a great outdoor seating area. They play good music and have a good crowd. It’s fine for groups or just for you. Linda’s is funky and fun. They serve food too. It’s the kind of place where you go get a pitcher of beer and it’s all chipped and dangerous.

Palisades was kind of hard to find, but once I got there, I got the best view of anywhere in Seattle! The view is really unbelievable. You can see downtown Seattle, the Space Needle, the ferries, the Olympics, Mt. Rainier, West Seattle, and it goes on and on. The restaurant is very fancy – some people were even in black tie attire when I was there. It is also very expensive. The food was good though, although you are definitely mostly paying for the view – which, I’d say, is worth it! This is a great special occasion/celebration place!

When Qazi first opened I was psyched. I love Indian food and this place is pretty good. It’ s not the best I’ve ever had, but it’s close by and was cheap. Now, however, over the past year or so, they’ve raised their prices a bit. The prices are about 8 or 9 bucks an entrée (vegetarian) instead of 6 or 7. Those few bucks are enough to make me decide to go somewhere else. The food is good, but not great – not worth $8-9 a plate. If I had to choose, I would have to say their paneer dishes are my favorite.

The Ballroom is a cool bar if you are a sophomore in college. Otherwise, it’s just a bunch of drunk guys trying to hook up with scantily glad girls. During the week, it’s not so bad. They have a bunch of pool tables and a really great outdoor area with a fireplace. That is probably the best part of the bar, and it’s really great for people watching in Fremont.

The Triangle is fairly small bar located in a triangle-shaped part of a building. It’s not too pretentious, not too overpriced, and it has great food. They have yummy salads and pizzas and lots of other food that is way above par for a bar. The crowd here isn’t too bad, especially during the week. They have the regular beers on tap, loud music, outdoor seating, no live music.

Musashi’s basically got me through grad school. I love sushi, but it can be really expensive. What to do? Well, luckily, we in Seattle all have Musashi’s. The menu isn’t enormously elaborate but it’s got all the basics. It’s not the absolute best or most creative sushi I have ever had, but you can easily get two people their sushi fix for dinner for $20 (including the tip!). The sushi here is very good however, don’t get me wrong. The cheapest way to go and still be happy is to get a few pieces of sashimi and then mostly order rolls. The spicy tuna is great. My favorite is unagi and avocado (not on the menu, but you can concoct your own rolls). I also really love Musashi’s California roll. It is so good! I’ve never had a better California roll!
Don’t bring non-sushi eaters here as the menu doesn’t have that much else on it. Also, you can only pay by check or cash – no credit cards. Finally, the restaurant is very small, maybe seats 20 or so? But, you can order ahead for pick up. This is usually a good plan as the wait can be 30 minutes long and you definitely aren’t going there for the décor or ambiance.
