The Loveless Motel and Cafe first started serving its famous fried chicken and biscuits in 1951. They set up picnic tables in the front yard and sold chicken from the front door to travelers driving up and down US Highway 100. It wasn’t long before they converted the old home into the restaurant that you see today. Not much has been changed, so if you picture in your mind and old motel and café…this is it.
I have only been for breakfast, so I have not tried the fried chicken that they are famous for. I have no doubt that it would be heavenly. Breakfast alone is wonderful. I always have one of the breakfast platters. It comes with 2 eggs, bacon or sausage, grits or potatoes, and the best biscuits I have ever eaten served with homemade preserves, honey and sorghum. The biscuits alone are worth the trip! The dinner menu is typical southern food; fried green tomatoes, fried chicken, catfish and more. This is a great place to eat!

St. Louis has a great little restaurant with good food at reasonable prices. Kayak’s Coffee is not just a coffee bar. It is conveniently located right across the street from the Galleria Mall; in the new shopping area know as The Boulevard. Kayak’s is a great place to go for a quick bite. They have a large variety of coffee drinks, wine and beer, pastries, soups, salads and sandwiches. I recently had the soup and ½ sandwich combo. The soup was homemade Tomato-Basil Bisque and my sandwich was a panini with Portobello mushrooms, fresh basil, dill-havarti cheese and a sauce. Both were delicious and only $6.95.

On our first visit to Savannah, GA we attempted to go to a place called The Crab Shack. It was a few miles outside of Savannah, on Tybee Island. Let's just say it is an interesting place and when we pulled into the parking lot I wouldn't’t get out of the car and we didn't stay. A couple years later we were back in Savannah and the concierge recommended The Crab Shack. So, we decided to give it another try and we loved it! We were with another couple and decided to order the “Shack Specialty” which is a platter piled with an assortment of in season shellfish, sausage, corn and potatoes. Ours was loaded with crab, shrimp and crawfish. It was huge and cooked to perfection. It is a great place and lots of fun.

I love drinking hot tea. On a trip to Charleston, SC in May my husband and I found a store called Teavana. They sell many varieties of loose tea leaves and you can taste or smell anything they sell. We ended up buying several different kinds and have been to other Teavana locations since to stock up. My favorites are the Iron Buddha Oolong and the Dragonwell Green. They have so many varieties it is really hard to choose. I suggest buying the Teavana Perfect Tea Maker. This item makes brewing tea leaves as easy as using a tea bag. I have given several of these for gifts since we bought ours. Teavana stores are located in malls all over the country and they do mail order.

Located on Siesta Key, just across the bridge from Sarasota, FL is a fun restaurant that specializes in deep-fried foods! The house specialty is the “Famous Salty Dog” a beer-battered, deep-fried hotdog. My husband loves the spicy seafood gumbo, and the onion rings are huge, and crispy. The batter that they use is really wonderful. I’m don't often eat fried foods but this place is worth it! They do offer grilled fish and chicken if you really want to avoid the specialties.

I recently watch a DVD that I received as a Bzz Agent about a college campus that is different from any I've ever seen. My daughter was home from college and watched with me. She attends a private liberal arts college, and she wanted to know why she didn't know about this school when she was looking! It is a multimedia campus where students develop skills through hands-on training for careers in the entertainment media industry. What I found really impressive was the fact that this year a total of 32 Full Sail grads saw projects they had assisted or engineered honored in 21 different categories at the Grammy's. If you know someone that is interested in this field and looking for a school to attend-pass along this website. http://www.fullsail.com

If you get a chance to go to Fort Lauderdale, FL make time to go to the Rustic Inn Crabhouse. If you like seafood, this is a wonderful place to go. It is a fun, casual restaurant with tables covered with newspapers, and mallets to crack the crabs. When someone has a birthday; the whole place pounds those little hammers on the table! I always get the “Crab Lover’s Delight” which has Garlic Crab, Golden Crab, Alaskan Queen Crab Legs, and Dungeness Crab with potatoes I’m always to full to eat. Crab isn’t the only thing on the menu. They offer a wide variety of seafood and fish, and several non-seafood items as well. http://www.rusticinn.com/

I saw Tom’s Mom’s Cookies featured on the Food Network. We were taking a trip to Michigan and would be driving through the town of Harbor Springs, so I knew I was going to try these cookies! The building is tiny and cute. It sits just off the main road within walking distance of all the other cute little shops in Harbor Springs. They sell a wide variety of cookies that are really delicious. They are large, and taste just like the cookies your mother would bake! We tried a wonderful Chocolate Almond Coconut cookie, and the Oatmeal Raisin and a Cinnamon Sugar. All three were fresh, and fabulous. They don't tell you who Tom’s Mom is, but I believe she is real! They do mail order, but I would place holiday orders early. It is a very popular place! http://www.tomsmomscookies.com/

If you are planning a visit to Effingham, IL this is the best place to stay if you want a larger room and breakfast. Country Inn and Suites is located just off the interstate and is very easy to find. There are several hotels all located together with a Cracker Barrel restaurant in the parking lot. Breakfast is fresh and good. If you are traveling with kids-these rooms work very well. The location is great-it is near several restaurants and Starbucks, Walmart is across the street.

If you are planning a visit to Effingham, IL this is the best place to stay. The Hilton Gardens is Effingham's newest (although a Fairfield is opening soon). It is really lovely, the rooms are nice sized and decorated in rich colors. The food in the small restaurant is quite good. Breakfast isn't included with the room rate, but is available at a discount for guests. They have coffee available in the lobby all day. The location is great-it is near several restaurants and Starbucks, Walmart is across the street.
