Acorn street has all sorts of yarn, embroidery thread, embrodery supplies& needles, knitting supplies, and crocheting supplies. they do birthday parties, and I find them great for a focused group of 8-12 year olds, especially girls, that aren't all that active. you get to knit (or maybe also crochet if you prefer, I don't know) some sort of craft, like a purse. they will teach you to cast on and knit if you do not know how. you probably won't finish the craft right there and then, but they will give you a pattern with clear instructions about how to finish it at home. i did a knitting party there, and it was tons of fun. the actual store has a huge selection of both normal and fun yarns, as well as patterns, but they are pretty expensive.
