The Marriott Wardman is a classy hotel with tons of amenities. The location is good, near the Woodley Park Zoo and just a short subway ride away from all of DC's attractions and shopping (the subway stop is right in front of the hotel). The staff is polite and helpful. The hotel contains a Starbucks, a jewelry store, and has a couple good in-house restaurants. It's also proximate to some good local restaurants.

The Residence Inn, which is predominately targeted toward business travelers, is a good hotel. The location near Dupont Circle is excellent. The staff is friendly and the rooms are clean and comfortable. Since it is directed more at guests with extended stays, the rooms also include a kitchenette with refrigerator. The hotel also has different themed networking events every night Monday through Thursday, and there are free breakfasts in the mornings.

Even for those who have seen Mount Vernon, the new visitor's center and museum (which opened 10/27/06) make a return visit mandatory. Of course, the mansion and grounds are amazing, and the tour guides knowledgeable, but with the additions, one can spend a whole day there. The musuem has a lot of artifacts (including Washington's dentures) and interesting information about George Washington's life. There are also several films to watch. There is also a learning center where forensic scientists were able to recreate what Washington looked like in his earlier years (previously undocumented). A great place for kids and adults alike.

We ordered pizza from here when we stayed at the Residence Inn down the street. The pizza itself was not bad, but the service was very slow. Our pizza arrived over an hour after we placed the order, it was maybe a block away. (The delivery guy was not at fault...the pizza was piping hot when it arrived. It just took them that long to make our pizza). And don't get the pan pizza, the crust is not very good.

Mimi's, which is adjacent to the Residence Inn on P Street, is a restaurant that also provides live entertainment. They have a piano player, and the waitstaff entertains the crowd with rousing renditions of various Broadway hits. The food is delicious as well (the Brie sandwich especially is fabulous). The last time I went, the wait for a table was very long, but that was mostly due to the huge party that took up most of the tables in the restaurant.

Rocky Run is a bar with sort of traditional American food. Lots of sandwiches and wraps. They have a pretty good variety of appetizers as well. The drinks are good. The atmosphere is that of your typical Applebees or Tuesday's...it's nothing special but nothing offensive either. The service is always very friendly, and the food is good but nothing outstanding.

I had high hopes for La Tasca that were sadly unrealized. The tapas here are hit or miss. We had a few dishes that were delicious, but the remainder were either overcooked, or bland, or dry. The paella especially was a disappointment...it was dry and totally lacked seasoning. The sangria there is the exact opposite though...it was outstanding. We ordered a carafe and it took the edge off our disappointment from the rest of the food.

The hot bar has a huge variety of food, from chicken to mashed potatoes to mac and cheese and some Chinese food. The only problem with these is that the food is quite heavy, and the price per pound is kind of expensive. For cheaper fare, the sandwich counter in back is a great place. They have sandwich specials where you get some kind of freshly made sandwich, chips and a drink for about five dollars.

Baja Fresh is similar to Chipotle in being a higher quality Mexican fast food restaurant, but it has much more variety than Chipotle. In addition to burritos, they have tacos, fajitas, salads, and many other menu items. All the ingredients are fresh and tasty, and they have different varieties of salsa that are also made fresh and are delicious. It's a great place for lunch when you don't have a lot of time.
