Texas Roadhouse is a good chain steakhouse. Their prices are reasonable and the portions are large. Plus you can start the meal with peanuts and toss the shells on the ground. But the wait is RIDICULOUS, and the staff isn't exactly forthcoming about how much time you have left to wait. We were told 15-20 minutes, and it was at least an hour more than that before we were seated. I don't think there is any restaurant on the planet that is worth that!

Don Hall's Guesthouse is a good hotel that doesn't break the bank. It's beautifully decorated and surrounds a pool and garden. The rooms are clean and attractively decorated. The staff is very helpful and patient. Another bonus is that this hotel has a great location. It is not too far from several restaurants and the mall, and it is adjacent to I-69.

World Market has an interesting array of merchandise that makes it a fun place to poke around in when you have some spare time. They have a lot of home furnishings from various locations around the world. They also have an extensive grocery section with products from around the world as well. My personal favorite is their selection of Cadbury products from England, such as the Cadbury Flake. Mm!

Glenbrook used to be the place to go in Fort Wayne. But in the last few years the quality has decreased considerably. Macy's bought out Ayres', and is nowhere near as good. Several major stores have left (including Express, a staple in most malls). Pretty much all they have left now are stores that cater to tweens and teens, which I left behind LONG ago. I am disappointed in the direction that it is taking.

Snickerz is one of the few places I go regularly when I visit Fort Wayne. It is a comedy club, and like a lot of comedy clubs, the talent can be hit or miss. If it's good, it's good, and if it is bad, it's heinous. But the waitstaff is great and the drinks are reasonably priced. The only drawback, aside from the inconsistency of the performances, is the fact that it is SO smoky. They have separate smoking and non-smoking sections, but it's sort of a joke because it's one large room. The smoke gets to be so bad that my eyes are tearing up by the time we leave.

The Soaring Eagle Casino, which is on an Indian Reservation, is a fun place to go if you are into gambling. It has your typical casino games, and the blackjack dealers in particular are very polite and helpful. The only thing that I wish they would work on is the ventilation systems. The Soaring Eagle is MUCH smokier than casinos I have been to elsewhere, like Atlantic City, which detracts from the experience, since I am a non-smoker.

The New China Garden has excellent Chinese food, the kind that you'd expect to find in much larger cities. The menu is standard but the food is all wonderful. You also get a free bowl of soup with an entree purchase. The atmosphere is nice as well, and it's never overcrowded. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I just wish they'd turn their thermostat up (sometimes it's a bit chilly).

Higher Grounds is a great locally-owned coffee shop that has grown to about six different locations in the Fort Wayne area. It has a huge list of different coffee beverages, and has a lot of non-coffee based products for those who don't like coffee. They also create specials that are not on the menu that are worth a sample. Two things I recommend: the Shoaff Shake (chocolate and espresso) or the Zebra (white chocolate mocha and regular mocha swirled).

K's Merchandise normally has a lot of warehouse prices on items for the home, but now they are going out of business, so all their items are at least 50% off. The selection is limited by now, but they still have some furniture at great prices. The service is pretty bad, but since the store is going out of business I imagine they don't think it is necessary to cater to the customers any more.

Cheddar's recently reopened after a remodel, and although I cannot see what exactly was remodeled (it all looks the same to me!), it is a welcome return. The menu is largely the same...it still boasts the restaurant's signature Spasagna (lasagna made with spaghetti noodles instead of lasagne noodles), and it has a great lunch special for $6.99 (half a club sandwich, their delicious potato soup, and a side salad). It's a great place to go before heading over to the mall for some shopping.
