Fort McHenry was an integral part of the Americans success in retaining control over the Port of Baltimore during the War of 1812. It was over this fort that the Star Spangled Banner was flown, which Francis Scott Key observed from a nearby ship and subsequently wrote the national anthem. The Fort is an amazing experience for those interested in history and/or wars. The staff is very knowledgeable and willing to share their knowledge...people who attend should take advantage of them. They are able to make the history of the fort come to life!
