It probably helps if you know Spanish because most of Gala's shows are in Spanish - but they always have English surtitles. In November 2005 they are doing an English play, "Eyewitness Blues", with the Washington Performing Arts Society. This is the 30th anniversary year of the group, which does a terrific job of exciting presentations. Now they are in their own permanent new home in the old Tivoli Theater with convenient parking in a secure garage behind the theater for $6, and just one block from the Columbia Heights Metro station. I heartily recommend Gala for everyone!

I have been a volunteer for Interages for many yuears and urge any one who wishes to serve children in the Montgomery Countyi community to consider volunteering.. Grandreaders inspire young children, mostly immigrants where nobody at home speaks English, to a love of reading and nurture feelings of self-esteem. Inttergenerational Bridges brings together a senior adult with an at-risk immigrant child as a mentor to improve communication skills and personal development. Other programs also embrace the value of cross-generational interaction. It is a gratifying and valuable experience.
If you are unable to volunteer your services, your contributions will help Interages continue its mission to assist more young children.

We prefer Bethesda Row for all our movie-going. It is easy to get tickets by credit card via the self-serve kiosk, the seats are stadium style so you have no problem with whoever is in front, the bathrooms are roomy and usually clean, and even the concessions are good. Plus they show the kind of movies we prefer most of the time.

You'll need to reserve aboiut 3 weeks in advance to get into Black Salt, but it's worth it! Or iyou may be able to snag one of the six tables out front without reservations. Seats at the bar have a back and are comfortable and fun for casual eating, too. The front of the place is a market of outstanding fresh fish and some carry-out. The freshly shucked to order oysters are fantastic - and the wide variety of unusual small plates and main dishes are amazing. Service is friendly and prompt. This is part of the group of Black's on Woodmont in Bethesda, Addie's on Rockville Pike and the new Black Market Bistro in Garrett Park.
