My husband has been going to the Bostonian for years and he really likes it. He has seen several of the barbers there and they all do a great job. I've been in with him and everyone is very nice and friendly. It's also a little more "hip" than your normal barber shop. Sometimes there can be a bit of a wait, he's had to wait for up to an hour, because it's just first-come-first-served but it's worth it for the good atmosphere and good cut. Very reasonable, only $15 with tip.

My husband LOVES Zestos. Anytime we have visitors in town, he wants to take them there. I'm not quite as convinced, however. The hamburgers are okay and there are interesting choices (like the Hawaiian burger and the garlicky Godfather) but I definitely don't think that they are the best burgers ever. The milkshakes are pretty great, though and the "old dinner" feel of the place is nice.

The Matador is a good addition to Ballard. The Spanish/Mexican food is incredible and the restaurant is a fun, hip spot to go. There is a large "fire pit" that you can sit around, several window tables and a nice bar. The crowd is usually young and hip, and the entire restaurant is 21 and over. It can get kind of crowded, and there's no real "waiting area" while you wait to be seated, so it's a good idea to go when it's not rush time.

The Blue Water Bistro is one of my favorite "special" restaurants. I've been to the Green Lake location and the Lake Union location. The food is good, and there's something for everyone (steaks, sea food, a burger, gigantic salads). They also have tasty cocktails and a good beer selection. But the BEST part is their awesome desserts. The "s'mores for 2" is fun, and so tasty. The still warm and gooey chocolate chip cookie is also amazing. The Lake Union location has an awesome view and a fun "boat" atmosphere. The Green Lake location is more romantic.

Golden Gardens beach and park is definitely one of Seattle's treasures. The views are amazing, the beach is spacious, the recreational activies abound. You can even have a bonfire in designated areas. However, it can get unbearablly crowded. If it's such a nice day that you think "I HAVE to go to the beach!" You can bet that the rest of Seattle thinks that too. However, if you go on a not-so-perfect day, you can still enjoy the view and the fun. The dog park, which is located above the beach, is very nice as well. Good fences, nice people and lots of dogs.

I'm a die-hard Ballardite, so I might be slightly biased, but I think that the Top Banana fruit and vegetable stand is AWESOME. They have fresh produce, great prices and very nice employees. The produce there is as good as at Pike's Market and it's definitely a lot less crowded. Oh, how I wish it was open all year 'round! Hurry up and get there before summer's over and you have to wait for next year!

We have been playing softball, bowling and mini golf in the Underdog leagues for three years. Their leagues (softball, bowling, golf, soccer, flag football, kickball, volleyball, more!) are very well run and feature a lot of fun people. If you are new to Seattle, this is a great way to meet a lot of good folks. The umpires and sport supervisors are professional and courteous. The leagues are a little on the pricey side, but if you can find a local bar to sponsor you, then it's just that much better!

Romanza, which has two Ballard locations, is a great little store. There is a wide range of unique gifts to choose from. The store carries candles, cards, beauty products, unique jewelry, some clothing items and lots of decorative items for the home. There are also a number of interesting and visually appealing books and a good selection of items for your furry friends. If you're looking for a great gift for a friend (probably a female friend, not a lot of "man stuff" here) or relative, this is the place for you!

The Tin Hat is a great neighborhood bar. It's casual and low key. The best part is that there are a number of games (Sorry, Connect Four, Scrabble) for patrons to play. There is also pin ball and an awesome jukebox, one of the best in Seattle with a number of indie and unknown bands, as well as the classics. They have a number of beers on tap and pretty cheap pitchers. Decent food too -- try the Exile Burger, a garlicky treat!

I *heart* the Portage Bay Cafe. Their weekend brunch is seriously wonderful. The yogurt pancakes with the awesome "toppings bar" featuring tons of fresh fruit, whipped cream and syrup are to die for. They also have really great omlettes and scrambles, made with organic eggs. For lunch, they have great sandwiches (the avocado turkey club is sooooo good) that come with cubed, herbed potatos that are so very tasty. The potatos are also a side for the breakfasts. In the summer, there is a very nice outdoor patio. If you come for breakfast, be prepared to wait -- as with any truly great weekend brunch in Seattle. The sandwiches are a little pricey. But it's worth it.
