Carmine's is a family style restaurant - the entrees are huge, huge, huge. So, bring a lot of people if you want to try a few different dishes. Three people could feast on one entree. The veal parmagiana is mouth-watering and the desserts are amazing. I usually go before going to a Broadway show - it is located close to many of the theaters.

Come here to get the relaxed feeling of being in Greece. In the summer they have tables outside, and while packed most of the time you are never rushed to give up your table. You can linger for hours over your frappé (great iced coffee) and just relax while people watching. If you decide to get something to eat, I recommend the cheese pie or spinach pie. Even though they are considered appetizers they give you such a big piece that it can substitute for a meal. I also love the galktoboureko, an amazing custard phyllo dough dessert drenched in a honey sauce.

Hands down, one of the best places for Greek food in Astoria. They have undergone a few renovations in the past few years. The first large renovation was expanding the dining area and the second was a revamp of the garden (both have led to creating a very nice atmosphere). I highly recommend all the dips, especially a unique one called, "kafteri" which is spicy feta cheese. The seafood is amazing, I also recommend the lamb chops, which are always tender.

The pizza from Grimaldi's is worth going to Brooklyn. The coal oven is what makes the thin crust taste so great. The pizzas cook up quickly, so once you are seated, you are served pretty quickly. Sometimes there is a wait to be seated, however because many people know how great the pizza is here. The toppings are fresh and they put just enough on.

I recently discovered this place. I saw one of their wines recommended in New York Magazine. The one they recommended was the Vitiano Rosé 2003. For $9.99, I knew I had to try it. The wine was really very good. That wine has a new fan and the shop has a new fan. The staff is not pretentious and the prices are great. There is of course a wide range of prices, depending on what wines you like. For someone who likes wine, but does not consider them self a wine connoisseur, it is a great find. I will definitely be going back.

The first (and only) time I went there I asked for a cut I have had in the past, that I know flatters my face, but they would not do it. The woman cutting my hair said it would not look good on me - my face was too round. This is not the way to get repeat business. I did like the cut she gave me somewhat, but I would have liked and been able to maintain the style I wanted better. I will not be returning to this salon.
