Nestled on Pine Street in Capitol Hill, Le Frock is known for selling vintage and consignment designer clothes. In the last seven years, I think I saw one vintage Armani suit that caught my eye. Other than that, I haven't been successful. I have been consistently underwhelmed by the service, but at least it's consistent. The shop feels too cluttery to me, and I get mildly claustrophobic in there, which is why I only go in when friends implore me.

You would think that in the digital age, fewer people would be going into record stores, but Sonic Boom always seems to be booming. They have a fantastic selection of music, and not just the Top 40 stuff that Wal-Mart wants to shove down all of our throats.

Let's face it, we all need to buy a quick gift or card once in a while, and that's why it's a good thing that stores like Magnolia Tree exist. They have a decent selection of cards, although I would like to see more blank cards available since I don't really like all the gushy insides of most cards. During the holidays, they carry some fantastic Christmas ornaments, and it is always worth popping by to check out a few and give them to a friend and/or family member.

If you're sick of paying way too much for a simple haircut, this is place to go. It is not for the uptight, the 'alternative' appearance may be a bit off for some. But, I have always gotten helpful service in there, and saved quite a bit of money as well. Plus, some of the hair care products they sell are great, so even if you just need some styling product, it's worth stopping in.

I'm a huge fan of reading. I'm an even bigger fan of little independent bookstores. I think every neighborhood should have them. Magnolia is very fortunate to have such a great local source for reading. The space is cozy (translated:small) but it is certainly not lacking of reading material. You can grab a magazine, or the hot new best seller. i have purchased a few really good cook books there, and helped a friend find some books on travel. The service has always been excellent, and it's rewarding to know that by buying a book (something I love to do) I am supporting a small business. If you are in Magnolia, this is worth checking out!

This used to be a great Sunday morning breakfast spot. One of my closest friends absolutely loves this place, and often a group of us would get together for some end of the weekend breakfast and inappropriate chatter. I was horrified a few months ago when I last ate there to see the new breakfast menu. They completely changed it and eliminated omelets all together. I loved getting an omelet with hash browns there. I was so disappointed, I haven't been back since. I hope they change the menu soon because I have many fond memories of eating there.

I love a shop where I can buy my shoes and my art at the same time, and then get a card for a friend. This is one of my favorite places to go on a Sunday morning after breakfast in one of Ballard's fabulous restaurants and while wandering the Farmer's Market. Even though it's not very large, I always find tons of interesting items. If you're wandering down Ballard Avenue (which you really should be doing), it's worth popping into re-Soul. You might just find that last piece of artwork you've been needing, or a smashing new pair of shoes.

Perhaps I am dating myself a bit, but I remember back in the late 80's when Zebraclub clothes were all the rage. Then they changed the focus of what they carried, and I drifted. Recently, I stopped in the Pine Street store while shopping with a friend, and I fell in love all over again. The clothes were simply fantastic. Even better, the employees were pleasant, unlike some in neighboring shops. I was so happy with the service and selection, I will be stopping by there whenever I feel the need for new clothes. The store is a bit small, but I feel that the space was used to maximize the selection. So, the size of it really didn't matter.

It's just simply fantastic to see a large independent bookstore thriving in the middle of a city, especially when too many big box stores have taken over. There's just something very soothing about wandering a maze of books hoping to find something to pique your interest. While not nearly the size of Portland's Powell's Books, Elliott Bay Books does Seattle proud. Of course, what would a proud bookstore in Seattle be without a coffee shop, and EBB delivers. After purchasing the new 'it' book (or whatever tickles your literary fancy) you can peruse it whilst sipping a velvety latte. Sounds like Paradise Found to me.

I don't hit Sapphire very often, but every experience I have had there has be quite nice. One time, I chatted with the bartender for quite a while (mostly ignoring my not so entertaining date), and another time I had a fantastic date filled with conversation and delicious cocktails. It's a nice change from some of the meat market bars and clubs you find in other parts of the city. And, it is smoke free before 10pm, which is nice if you don't want to smell like an ashtray.
