The Intiman is a beautiful theater located at the northern border of Seattle Center. The main season is generally five to six shows that run from spring until autumn. We have been quite satisified with our season subscriptions, which have an enabled us to see a wide variety of live theater (one person, ensemble, comedy, drama, musical, etc.) for a very reasonable price. The theater has a reduced rate program for people 25 and under which was a great benefit in establishing ourselves as theatregoers early on in life. The physical aspect of the theater is quite cozy; I would recommend not going for the very front rows as you're literally right on top of the actors. Our season tickets are in the second to last row by choice, but in the Intiman, you're still close enough to clearly see facial expression, but also take in the whole set..

Dr. Kevin Hatfield is a primary care physician who works at the Polyclinic's Downtown location in the Medical Dental Building at 6th and Stewart. Dr. Hatfield is direct and straightforward about medical issues. He does not speak down to patients as many doctors do, but speaks in clear plain english peppered with medical terminology in a way that allows patients to learn about their issues or conditions without feeling like it is being dumbed down for them. Dr. Hatfield is prompt; I've never been kept waiting at his office, even for late in the day appointments when most doctors are way behind schedule. I have not had any serious medical problems while I have been in Dr. Hatfield's care, but should any arise, I would have complete faith and confidence in him.

Big Picture is located under El Gaucho on 1st Avenue and provides a first-rate moviegoing experience. Big Picture (and its sister location in Kirkland) is a unique theater in that it as a full bar and patrons must be 21 or over. The theater is small and intimate, a great place for a drink and a date. Most of the films are indy or arthouse flicks, which only lend more credibility to Big Picture being a hip in-on-the-secret kind of place. Check their website for screening times, many of the showtimes during the week are at a substantial discount from the current rip-off at the chains (of course the movies are generally not in their first few weeks of release though). Definitely a great place to catch a flick without braving the malls and multiplexes!

Cinerama is without a doubt the best place to watch a movie in Seattle. How good is it? Pearl Harbor was awesome at Cinerama. The sound is absolutely outstanding, no matter where you're sitting. Explosions feel like they're literally hitting you. The super-sized screen and relatively limited depth of the theater make you feel like objects on the screen are going to fly out and hit you. With its old school retro-kitsch decor, Cinerama is a fun throwback to a seemingly more innocent era. Now, if they could get cinerama type movies more frequently, rather than changing only once per month or less frequently, I'd have an excuse to go more often.

Purple Cafe is a fantastic restaurant with among the best service in the Seattle region. Although it apparently is well known for an extensive wine list (demonstrated by the massive ten foot high wine racks around the room), I have not had any wine there. After one visit, I can say that the food was delicious and well-prepared. Courses were delivered in a timely fashion without one piling up on the other and without any apparent effect of delay from sitting under a heat lamp too long. One neat thing they have is a milk flight, four different milk flavors (regular, strawberry, chocolate, anc caramel) so the kids (or my wife) can share in the flight experience. The only knock on the place is its location in an outdoor mall. I highly recommend Purple Cafe if you're looking for a great American/eclectic meal at a very reasonable price for a nice night out.

We've used April Lane's since February 2005 and have been extremely pleased with their work. Our home is about 1400 square feet with both tile and carpeted floor surfaces. Our assigned cleaner comes every other week and the total is 70.40 (would be $74, but you get a discount when you pay by check). Everything is spotlessly cleaned, including underneath appliances, the bed is made, various blankets around the house are folded, toiletries are organized, magazines are neatly piled, and the house looks fantastic. Having one assigned cleaner is a key feature of April Lane's which I think sets it apart from other services where there is less pride in work when you don't see the same places every week. April Lane's is fully insured and bonded as well.

Well past my college years prime, I still haul myself up to the U-District Rudy's every three to five weeks for a great haircut at a decent price. The staff is friendly, even when I come in looking like a yuppie lawyer and clearly don't blend in with the U-District crowd and tatted/pierced employees. I rated Rudy's great not perfect because once every few months, the barber will miss edging my ears; I did have one bad haircut there about five years ago, but I never saw that guy again, so why hold it against them. The price for a men's haircut is steeper than I think it should be at $17, but I was raised on great cheap true barbershop haircuts in the Bronx. Given the general price inflation in Seattle, this is still a pretty good value, plus you can get a free haircut after every ten haircuts.

Dr. Zimmer is the best dentist I have ever had. He is frank, shows genuine concern for his patients, and works efficiently, but thoroughly. His office staff is extremely friendly, knowledgable, and very effective. Dr. Zimmer extracted my wisdom teeth and has filled one cavity. These were my first real dental experiences beyond cleanings and exams (no cavities all these years) and I was never uncomfortable or in pain. Dr. Zimmer's hygenists do an excellent job as well. The office is state-of-the-art with electronic record-keeping and instant access dental records. I highly recommend Dr. Zimmer to anyone needing general dental care. As a bonus, you get free movie tickets anytime you refer a patient to him!

Carl does a fantastic job repairing small foreign cars. I have a recent vintage (2002) Mazda Protege5 and have taken my car to Carl for one problem and one scheduled maintenance visit. On both visits, Carl promised to return my car by a certain date and time and delivered on that promise. For the problem, diagnosis was made quickly and I was fully informed about my options and the cost. Carl's cost estimates were on target and actually ended up being a little high in one case as the labor did not take as long as he thought it would. Hard to believe, but this is a mechanic who charges less than he estimates! In addition, he keeps good records, so when I came in for routine maintenance several months after the problem, Carl was aware that parts that would normally be replaced during maintenance had been replaced earlier and did not work on them again (beyond checking to make sure they were still okay). Bottom line: Excellent mechanic at a fair price.

Icon Grill is the epitome of Seattle Cuisine, presenting comfort foods (pasta, meatloaf, mac & cheese) with new variations. Frequently, the Icon twist works amazingly well, bringing new flavor and interest to old favorites. On occasion, the Icon formula fails to wow, but those occasions are few and far between. My personal favorite is the cajun rock shrimp penne, a very spicy take on modern pasta. Other favorites include the mac and cheese and tiger prawns with brie (special). Service is generally better than average for the area, attentive, but not intrusive. The decor is modern Seattle eclectic with beautiful glass sculpture and velvet upholstery throughout. Although the dining room tends to have a noisy buzz, it's not obstrusive; you can definitely have a conversation. The biggest knock on Icon may be value; although generally in the range for downtown Seattle, I always feel a tad cheated paying 10.95 for mac and cheese.
