El Pilon is a paragon of everything a good Cuban cafeteria should be: no frills, great food, generous portions, and low prices. The entire menu is authentic and delicious, from the slow-roasted pork, to the Spanish bean soup, to the sweet plantains. While the Tampa Bay area has its share of Cuban restaurants that lean either towards generic fast-food or pricy full-service restaurants, cafeterias like El Pilon are becoming scarce, so if you have the opportunity to check it out, don’t pass it up!

The Dragon is my favorite bar in Fremont, especially on an off night like wednesday or thursday. I love the atmosphere and the beer selection. They keep a good selection of British and Irish bitter, along with some good hoppy brews from the Northwest. Pitchers are relatively cheap and when there are good soccer matches on they will usually be on the TV. In the summer it is nice to sit outside on the porch and people watch.

Though it is one of the biggest dives on the ave, and the carpet in the back is downright scary, the place has a certain charm about it. It can be quite crowded on a weekend night, so go early and get tanked before heading to more expensive places.

I was introduced to Mac and Jacks African Amber shortly after moving to Seattle, and it is one of the best beers I have ever had. Mac and Jacks brews four separate beers, but the others can be hard to find. All of them are the best of their class of beer, that I have had. Stop by for the tour which is Sunday at 3:00. They offer 4 free samples and a pint glass. I have also bought several kegs for parties there, and they charge a very reasonable fee. In addition to that you can pick up some mini kegs or fill a growler while there. Please support this local brewery, as I don't think I can survive without it.

Last year my friends and I rented a boat for a couple of hours and had a blast cruising around the Lake Union area, all the way out to the locks in Ballard. We brought a bunch of beverages and food and music and partied like it was 1999. I highly recommend trying this out. If you get a bunch of people together you can do it for something like 10-20 bucks a person. Turn the boat into a floating nightclub.

After enjoying a night out, we will often leave a few minutes early, just so that we can make it to Dick's before they close. Dick's is old school, they have a limited menu which they will not change. They don't make special orders and they don't have a super-size. Which all adds up to me loving the place. If you are ever in Seattle for more than a day, you must try a Dick's Deluxe and some of their fries.

I purchased an awesome wool beret from these guys last time I was in Santa Cruz and really enjoyed the experience of shopping here. They had an interesting selection of hats you are not likely to find at a chain store. The prices were pretty good considering the quality of the stitching and the materials that were used. I would definitely shop here again.
