Some hard to find items are also available. The farmer's market is one of those quintessential New York places. It can be very crowded on the weekends, but even then it's worth strolling through.

A&E is one fantastic dry cleaner. I had moved out of the neighborhood a few years ago and after having many clothes ruined at other places, I'd go out of my way to bring my clothes here. I've never had a problem. They also offer tailoring services and can be relied upon to care for your most fragile fabrics. The only draw back is they are busy, so you may have to wait awhile for any special services. But it's worth it.

I admit that I am a completely biased Boston girl, but this is truly some of the best ice cream in the country. They invented cookies and cream and probably inspired a misters Ben and Jerry to setup shop. Plus you really have to respect a store that grew out of the desire to just have a place to hang out and listen to music. I believe they have a few shops in NYC now, so stop in and try the Almond Joy (my personal favorite), or any number of their rich concoctions.

This is one of the best places to hang out in Astoria. Their iced Greek coffee is perfect and they have some of the best vegetarian sandwiches. Now if that weren't enough, they have an eclectic atmosphere and good music that just encourages you to stay. And that's just the cafe part of their name. They also have an inspiring bar selection that suits their loungey space.

I don't like to smear a business or person online, it's just bad karma, but people need to be warned about this office. I went to this dentist because of convenience. She convinced me I needed a root canal and charged me hundreds of dollars above the standard copay my insurance company arranged with her. To make matters worse when I brought my old x-rays to a new dentist, not only did he have to fix her work, he didn't think I ever needed the root canal in the first place. Very shady.

What a clever little gift shop. I never realized I NEEDED a mini-clock in the shape of a 1950s TV before visiting this store, but that's part of the appeal. You're not sure what you'll find. And I don't know how many trinkets I've bought as gifts here. Their jewelry selection is charming, ranging from modern to vintage designs, with some of the best prices left on Bleeker street.
