The State Bank of Texas started out being just one bank created by Indian for Indian, although everyone is welcome there. The idea behind it is that business will be better if the person you are getting a loan from is from the same country you are from. So far it appears to have paid off. With four metroplex locations, business is certainly good for them. But, competition is lurking around the corner. If you are Indian and prefer and Indian banker, then go to State Bank of Texas.

India Gate is an Indian grocery store that is smaller and not as good as its neighbor Maitri mart. Also, the service there is terrible and probably the reason no one is ever there. I have only been there a few times and each time I did not have pleasant experiences. I say skip it and drive to Maitri.

For years Indians had to watch Bollywood movies in one city, eat authentic Indian food in another city, and hold parties in a different place. That was a lot of driving. Now, all of that can be done in one place. FunAsia is a movie theater, restaurant, and a banquet hall. I mostly go there for the movies and they always have the latest Bollywood flicks. The theaters are not as impressive as modern theaters such as Cinemark, they are still decent none the less.

The best thing about Tilak is not jewelry, which could use some originality, is the customer service. They are some of the nicest jewelers I have met in the Dallas metroplex. But, if you want great original jewelry, skip Tilak.

Previously known as Star Jewlers, Govinji’s was one of the first Indian jewelry stores. It was one of the best because it has intricate designs and reasonable prices. Then a few years ago, it expanded its business by opening another store and offering watches, diamonds, etc. It still remains pretty good but it has very stiff competition from other jewelers such as Tilak.

Located at I-35 and Walnut Hill, SpeedZone has everything for the racing enthusiast. There you can be Jeff Gordon in go carts, dragster, golf course, and much more. It is like Putt-Putt for grow-ups. I especially recommend drag racing at 70 mph in under three seconds. The slick track is also pretty good because you try to do your best on a very highly polished track.

Fair Park is truly is a cultural and entertainment center. It is home to one of the largest fairs in the world, the State Fair of Texas. But besides that, it has the Cotton Bowl, The Science Place, the Craft Village, Centennial Hall, the Automotive Building, and tons of other stuff. There is literally something to do for everybody. I have lived in Dallas for many years and I have yet to see everything there is at Fair Park. It truly big and grand, just the way Texans like it.

The Zoo is ideal for kids and family trips. Everyone should see the zoo at least once.
